| Got Seller's Blues? Get HGTV Style on an SOS Budget
Between the poor housing market and the fast-approaching cooler weather--it's no secret that now may be the most difficult time to sell your home. If your house is currently on the market, you need to make it stand out from the hundreds of others just like it in your price range and neighborhood. Fortunately, there are often many simple and inexpensive fixes that can make your home appealing and attractive to buyers.

Just like the HGTV programs, Details by Amie offers home staging services that enhance the look of your home with minimal time and expense. Often just a fresh set of eyes can make great recommendations for new layouts, new colors and accent pieces that allow potential buyers to envision themselves living in your home.
It's important to remember that how you live is not necessarily how you will sell your house. One of the most important tips is to organize and de-clutter. It often requires a third-party, objective outsider (like myself!) to help you recognize what is "simplified" and what is "clutter." Other simple tasks, like changing a paint color, chaning out lamps and lighting, and highlighting the kitchen, bath and storage areas, all can enhance the perceived value of a home.
And, don't forget about the exterior appearance of your home! Who knows how many prospective buyers don't even make it in the front door because they find nothing appealing about the outside of a home. If you are seeking suggestions for staging your home for sale, don't hesitate to call me! |

Waist Not, Want not! |
|
Women: Once again, one of this season's hottest accessories for women is a simple belt. We all love the idea of creating an hourglass figure with the style of wearing belts around our waist. But be careful of the thickness of the belt and where the belt sits on your waist. If you are tall with more of a pencil or athletic build, you'll want to use wider belts to help define your waist. Curvy bodies or short torsos should stick to a thin to medium belt, placed slightly higher then the natural waistline to create the illusion of an elongated, leaner shape. To hide a tummy, try using a ticker belt lying loosely around the bottom of waist.
Men: Picking the proper sport coat can help you look longer and leaner, too. If you are vertically challenged, stick to three-button blazers, creating the illusion of a taller torso. If you are oversized, choose those with one to two buttons, bringing you back into proportion.

What's Hot for Fall Fashion? What's that one hot must-have item in your closet for fall?
Men: A great blazer. Men, this is your little black dress. There are so many to choose from--from corduroy, tweed, wool and cotton, to velvet, even leather. Have fun with them. Pair a deep red corduroy jacket with a dark blue and white striped shirt. You can even throw on a vest or cardigan for more layering.
Other must-haves: Wool ties and vests; patterned slacks(great for something new and fun instead of the same old, tired khakis or jeans!); trench coats (they're not just for rainy days!)
Women: Anything tweed. Whether a jacket, skirt or pants, this textile is the most trend-setting item for the cooler months. And, it's very versatile; you can wear tweed to the office, casual gathering or for a dressed-up night out. Pair a tweed jacket with a feminine blouse and cream pants for work. Or, wear with a fun tee, vintage printed scarf and jeans. The jacket should be form fitting and hit you right on the hip bones.
Other must-haves: Feminine pieces paired with a tough piece, such as studded belts or handbags with pleats and ruffles;Lace and velvets - make sure the velvet has a soft drape if worn as a dress, shirt or skirt; Anything plaid! |
Don't Fear a Little COLOR!
Cooler temperatures and a few extra pounds usually have most folks reaching for those safe, drab, winter staples like black and grey. But this season is screaming for "'the new neutrals"--colors that are a kick up from basic black but can still work with most other colors in your wardrobe. For women, expect to see plenty of jewel tones, like plum and midnight blue. Men, try a rich chocolate brown--still a safe tone but a step up from khaki or black. | |
