The Cornerstone

So this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
"See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;
the one who trusts in Him will never be dismayed."
                                        Isaiah 28: 16

Thus Isaiah spoke - referring to Jesus way back in the Old Testament. What is a cornerstone? Our trusty Wikipedia says it is the foundation stone, "...the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure."

In other places it is called a capstone, which refers to "...the most important part of a building - a crucial part of the foundation that anchors the whole structure."

If you have ever laid a tile floor or set a patio using pavers you know how important that first stone is. If that first stone and that first row is not aligned properly, nothing goes right; the more you try to correct the pattern the worse it gets. By the end of the project nothing lines up the way you had planned.

On the other hand, if the first stone or piece of tile is set correctly and firmly, everything else falls into place after that.

The Bible has a lot to say about this cornerstone. You know what I'm talking about.

We build the structure of our life one way or the other, either in line with the cornerstone...or not! One thing we know: If we are aligned with Christ and his purposes for us, our foundation is sure and our structure is anchored firmly. Anything else is built on a shaky foundation.

I wish for all of us a fresh awakening of spirit that leaps in agreement with the apostle Paul when he proclaims "...Jesus Christ himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord."  Eph. 2:20-21

Friends, what an amazing promise is hidden in these words. Blessings and Peace to you this week.

Greg

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Saturday Morning, April 7: You're Invited! Easter Hike, Breakfast and Communion Service in the Beautiful White Tank Mountains

This is a very special time for us at Life Discovery. For many years (eleven, to be exact!) we have held this celebration on the day before Easter. Come for some - or all - of the morning!

8:00 AM: Begin the morning with a hike to the waterfall. The trail is easy, with a groomed and paved path most of the way. You don't have to go all the way to see the great scenery and enjoy the outdoors.

9:30 AM: Return to Ramada #7 for a delicious hot breakfast.

10:30 AM: Join us in this Celebration of Easter at the outdoor communion service.

White Tank Mountain Park is located on Dunlap/Olive Ave. where it ends on the west side of the city. There is a $6.00 park entrance fee per car, so ride together if you can. You can ask for a park map at the gate. We meet at Ramada 7.

Bring your own lawn chair, sunscreen, hat or umbrella, and water. (It can get hot out there, so be prepared!)

Call Elly for more info at 623-297-1110. Don't miss it! We look forward to seeing you there!

Saturday, April 21: Life Discovery Garage Sale!

Spring is here and it's time to clean out that garage and closet and donate of all those items you can't use or don't want. Proceeds will go to to Life Discovery. The garage sale will take place at Elly's house. We will also need people to help. More info coming, but start packin' up those boxes now!

Notice to Fellowship of Followers: Since we meet again in less than 2 weeks (on April 1) we're cutting your reading assignment to just Chapters 1-3 of the book. If you read more - great; but we didn't want to overload you. Don't forget to practice the four steps in Chapter 3 for your morning prayers.
