I've Been Thinking...

About the God of Beauty
We've been in Minnesota this past week, and autumn in Minnesota is something else. Within a few days the leaves change from green to vivid gold, red, yellow and rust. On the farm this weekend we walked down the driveway to look up at majestic cottonwood trees rising almost 100 feet into the air, their vibrant yellow-gold leaves dancing and making music in the wind against that bright blue autumn sky.

It reminds me that our God is a God of beauty and endless creativity. Isn't that something? He could have made the world in black and white....or all brown. He could have made only one or two types of trees instead of the estimated 100,000 species of trees. But the God of the universe chose to paint this canvas called earth with unlimited variety, beauty and color.

Closer to home, you don't need to go very far out of Phoenix to enjoy the serene beauty of the Sonoran Desert. And whenever I drive to Flagstaff I watch expectantly for the snow-capped San Francisco Peaks to come into view. It always gives me a "wow" moment in my heart. Or how about when you drive west to California? I can't wait for the moment I come over a hill or round a curve and that vast Pacific Ocean spreads out before me. Again..."WOW!"

There are many things in this world I am grateful for and one of them is the gift of this incredible creation all around us. I think God must have had so much fun making it. You know, as his creatures it is in us to love beauty. I think beauty soothes the soul. It is how we were created. It is part of God's nature and, therefore, our nature as well.

Heaven is my home; but in the meantime I will enjoy all the colors of this earth - a glimpse into the heart and nature of our God. Next time you are enjoying one of his masterpieces, take a moment to look up and say, "Thanks!"

"For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made - His handiworks." Romans 1:20 The Amplified Bible

May your week be blessed with beauty,

Greg
