Mummy Takes a Math Class by Erica Ehm
|
|

|
Math scares me. Always has. But the living nightmare was when my son brought home his Grade Two math workbook and I couldn't figure out one of the problems. I spent 15 minutes bending my brain until the answer finally popped out. But this is Grade Two work!! What happens when my kids are in Grade Five? I panicked like I did before a high school math exam. At the time I was contemplating my math illiteracy, I received an invite from...

Benefits of a Playdate by Kathy Kemp

Remember getting that nudge from your mother on the first day of school, "Just go and say hi," she would say as you hesitated to approach a group of kids talking. It's exactly the same feeling for new parents.
It's a little nerve-wracking going up to a complete stranger and sparking up a conversation. But if you can remember these simple rules, it may help to ease the situation...

|
|

I've noticed more than one Mom skipping down the quiet streets of my neighbourhood lately, giddy in the anticipation of their kids heading off to school in just a few days.
I share their excitement. I'm sending my oldest to university in September, just about an hour, but only a text message away. Am I worried I'll miss her? A little. Am I worried she'll miss us? A little more. Am I worried I won't know what she's doing every single minute of every single day?

The Inside Scoop On Volunteering In the Classroom
In a few days, I'll be marching into my son's school, introducing myself to his new teacher and asking if she needs any help in her classroom.
I wasn't always an enthusiastic volunteer but over the past two years I've come to love it. It's allowed me to see how my son is doing in school, to meet his classmates and most importantly, I've learned how much it helps the teachers and school.
In honour of that, I spoke with a few teachers to get the Inside Scoop on what they want (and don't want) in their classroom volunteers...

Best Tools for School
Most parents dread the inevitable back to school rush. The whining, crying, temper tantrums and uncontrollable fits of rage. And that's just the adults, heaven forbid you have to bring your children with you.
I am one of those parents. Standing in a big box store last August agonizing over whether or not a black duo-tang could be bleached grey, an idea was born. What if there was a kinder, gentler way to do back to school shopping? What if someone could put all this together so she never had to seek out school supplies again?
