Picture Your Family by Erica Ehm

It's a photo epidemic - millions of family photos with no mothers in the shot. Here's the scenario - Mom hides BEHIND the camera, cute kids and dads are IN FRONT of the camera.
I'm guessing this stems from our pregnancy days when our big bellies make us too self conscious to have our photos taken. Then, post baby we looked exhausted and hid when someone whipped out a camera. And finally, most of us are running after the kids or making meals and don't spend time primping in front of a mirror. And who wants to get their picture taken when you're feeling like the tired hired help. Next thing you know, it becomes a bad habit and moms aren't in the shot. I can't tell you the number of times YummyMummyClub members who submit articles don't have a photo of themselves to use for their bio.
Now here's my take. You NEED to be in more photos, even if you hate it. Cuz those images are documenting your family history and your kids need you to be a big part of it. The next time you find yourself behind the camera, drag your sexy butt in front of it, give some attitude and say Cheese!
In the meantime, check out this bunch of tips, tricks and tales written by and for moms to help you and your family look hot in the shot!

Fallen Princesses by Dina Goldstein

As a new mother I have been able to get a close-up look at the phenomenon of young girls fascinated with princesses. The Disney versions almost always have a sad beginning, with an overbearing female villain, and the end is predictably a happy one.
I began to imagine Disney's perfect Princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around me. These photographic works place Fairy Tale characters in modern day scenarios with the '...happily ever after' replaced with a realistic outcome... Click for more... |

Some Things Should Never Be Photographed by Carrie Anne Badov

When we became parents, one of the first things we bought (after the car seat and crib and stroller) was a digital camera. Like all proud parents we recorded every smile, every milestone, every everything. But after three kids I've learned some family moments shouldn't be captured on film, no matter how proud you are... Introducing Eric Novak: Who's Your Daddy Blog

Being a parent kicks ass! In the 7 years I have been a parent I have learned, laughed, lamented and loved more than I had done in the 33 previous years combined! I remember Mel Gibson once saying "I figure somewhere between kid number one and number seven, I must have learned a few things" and while my learning pool isn't as large as his, I can certainly resonate with his point of view. Through this blog and with every post I hope to...

Leslie Crowell: Yummy Mummy Wannabe Blog

Under My Parents' Roof
According to the Rolling Stones, "Time Waits For No One". Now I'm not sure whether any one of Mick's ladies was having fertility issues when it was written, but trust me, this song could become a Wannabe's anthem.
Time, I have learned, is a constant enemy for the fertility challenged. It passes either far too quickly or alternatively, not nearly quickly enough. It never seems to be on your side. And more often than not the timing for baby-making is never right. Time just marches on, oblivious to the fact you're vacationing at your parents' house (small bungalow)...for four consecutive nights (on a Murphy bed) ...when you are potentially fertile (and should be screwing like rabbits).

Mother of Reinvention by Alicia Caine

Alicia Caine Photography
Two years ago, my hubby left the military to go back to school and we had to decide what we were going to do for money while he was in school. I'm a stay at home mom who had a love for photographing my children...so I decided I would make it a business.
Time and time again I was told I was crazy! I was David standing up against Goliath. No child care assistance, working full time, having a full time college student husband, tons of debt, no savings for wiggle room and pregnant. The odds were NOT in my favor...
