Healthy is a State of Mind by Erica Ehm

Pre-kids my body was hot. I had the luxury of time and energy to workout consistently. Since kids, my workouts are sporadic at best. My sport is running. My problem is motivation and procrastination. I'm amazing at making excuses for not running. It's too cold, too hot, I don't want to mess my hair, I'm too tired, I'm too busy. Out of the blue I received an invite through Twitter from a mom I've never met to join her on a 15 km night run in August. YES! Suddenly I had motivation, inspiration and a destination. Then I invited a bunch of women who work on this site who (nervously) agreed to run too. I've already increased my distance and my clothes are a tiny bit looser. Wish me luck on my run. Or better yet, join us! To help you get out of your fitness rut and put you in a healthy state of mind, here's a bunch of energetic articles to help even the most exhausted mom get her game on.

Workout Videos, Soft Porn and G-Strings by Shannon Cook

Before I had my daughter, running was a regular part of my workout. Since her birth, running has lost its allure for me. I think it had to do with breastfeeding my daughter. My huge boobs bounced as I jogged with my daughter in the stroller and it was unattractive, uncomfortable and no matter how many sports bras and running tanks I put on, my girls still soared for the sky and dove for the ground. All you ladies out there with... Click for more... |

Kid-Friendly Workout by Sandra Drygas

Can a mother really find time to get healthy and fit with a kid on each hip?
If you had asked me this a few years ago, I would have said no. I worked professionally as a dancer in Vancouver and Toronto until I was 25. I never had to worry about my weight and had a body that could have been an anatomy lesson. But I never really appreciated that until I had...

Mom Tries a Tri by Rebecca Follows

Just about a year ago, my neighbor mentioned the idea of a "Try a TRI" and that a group of moms were working together to do this for the first time. Having just had my baby, I wasn't quite ready for it.
Now with my little guy past one, I've decided to get in on it this year. A group of moms have come together and we are supporting each other with encouragement, buddying up to run, swim and go for bike rides. At shorter distances than an actual triathlon, this event is much more doable, especially for...

Mummy Asked An Expert: Health and Fitness

Yummy Mummy Joana O. from Mississauga asked: I have been doing crunches and other ab workouts to tighten my mummy tummy; I can feel my abs underneath but I still have that flab on top? Is there a workout I can do to tighten my mummy tummy?
Our expert and Sweaty Mummy Blogger Dara Duff-Bergeron answered: This is something I get asked very often - even by men. The truth is, you can have a strong midsection and firm, developed abdominal muscles but still have a flabby tummy or, in the case of a man, a bit of a beer gut. One of the biggest myths out there in the fitness world is...

Picking the Perfect Watermelon
I love watermelon. I can eat a whole watermelon in one sitting, wipe the juice dripping from my chin with my clean white tee, lean back with my hands interlaced behind my head, a satisfied smile on my face and burp out delightful watermelon burps whilst resting a glass of chardonnay atop my bloated belly.
But no matter how hard I try, I can't pick out a good watermelon. I've knocked more melons than a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon and still end up with light pink, tasteless blech. So after cutting into yet another dud watermelon this morning only to find more rind than red, I decided to research how to choose the perfect watermelon.
This is what I found...

Mother of Reinvention by Carol Clay

Janestrap
I came up with the idea for the Janestrap after the birth of our first child. Being a runner, I was very eager to get back my pre-baby body and return to running. One week after delivery, I stepped onto the treadmill but soon found that my breasts, which had since doubled in size, were not up to the challenge. Running became uncomfortable, embarrassing and painful. I tried several different sports bras and nothing seemed to stop the bounce... Click for more...Are you a mother of reinvention... |
