Help! My Baby Stole My Heart
| |

From The Heart By Erica Ehm

When they put my son Josh in my arms for the first time, I didn't "love" him instantly. The feeling was more of a responsibility to care for this little alien looking package. I didn't admit this to anyone for a long time. It was my shamefull secret. It took me six months to fall deeply, madly in love with my son. And then I fell big. It was as if Josh was my little boyfriend, best friend, boy toy and shining prize. I loved my hubby but he faded into the background as Josh took control of my heart.
Like the Grinch, most of us feel our hearts grow three sizes when we become parents.
In honor of Valentine's Day, this issue is filled with articles written about that deep love we have for our kids and the crazy things love can make us do. So grab some bitter chocolate and a spicy Shiraz and enjoy this guilt-free read.

Mummy Loves the Boys By Anne Marie Scheffler

I'm married with kids now. My Sex and The City lifestyle days are behind me. No more bad relationships with immature guys. I did the whole "please a man and lose myself" thing and I thought I learned from it.
But here I am, repeating old, self-sabotaging patterns with... Click to read more... |

Cruel To Be Kind By Alyson Schafer

Break out the burn-in-your-mouth cinnamon hearts, it's Valentine's. What a good time to talk about how we show our children we love them. Did you know there was a right way and a wrong way? Great eh? More to worry about. Even something as primal as love we can't seem to get right without the so-called experts weighing in on it. (oops - that's me!)
Well, hear me out and see what you think for yourself...

The First Cut Is The Deepest By Julie Cole |

As Valentine's Day approaches our minds turn to our greatest loves. Certainly the focus of the day is romantic love, but as parents we have experienced a love that rivals even the most memorable of romances.
As a mother who is about to welcome her sixth child to the world, I am often asked how I have enough love and attention to share among my kids. Admittedly, things can run a bit thin in the individual attention department, but what is lacking there is made up for with...

Dan Thompson: Beauty Busted

The big brands have offered men's skincare for years but only recently started heavily marketing them. The question remains is men's skin so different from women's it needs different products? The Answer? No.
Men can use the same products as women except women's skincare is usually so feminine in its presentation that most men won't. Men's collections are simply repackaged versions of the women's skincare already on the market. Here's the best part. Women can...

Our book of the month is Angry Housewives Eating Bons Bons by Lorna Landvik as recommended by Kamala McGuigan of Fredericton, NB.
Kamala writes, "This is a story of five very different women, who forge a friendship that spans 40 years. These years cover everything from being a stay-at-home Mom to finding new careers, marriage breakups and all of life's adventures. You will feel like you have made 5 new best friends. It is also interesting to see a glimpse of what it was like to be a housewife in the sixties and how some things have evolved for us while others have stayed the same."
This month, ten lucky mummies will win a copy of Lorna Landvik's Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons courtesy of Random House of Canada!
