Hi Friends,
Each year, delegates and guests from the forty-five Unitarian Universalist congregations of the Florida District come together in common Assembly to celebrate, to meet and to learn from each other.
We also come to conduct the District's shared business. The notice of our District Assembly Annual Business meeting and delegates' credentials will come to you separately. We have new officers to elect, a budget to adopt and some by-law revisions to permit youth participation on the Board.
Meanwhile, the District Assembly is a great moment of shared ministry. We welcome as our theme speaker Gini Courter, Moderator of our Association of Unitarian Universalist Congregations. She will share her thoughts on changes occurring within our Unitarian Universalist world and the challenges facing our future. She will also lead a workshop for our congregational leaders.
Additionally, we have fifteen workshops and other meetings focused on our theme and congregational life ~ including a presentation on Unitarian Universalist response to the tragedy in Haiti and the ministries of our cousins in Transylvania. Our Awards Luncheon, Saturday honors our congregations and individual achievements in this last year. There is still time to submit nominations (see:
http://www.floridadistrict.org/cms/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/fld-awardnominationinfo2010-for-web.doc).
After our workshops, the Board invites our delegates to participate in an open discussion of the challenges and opportunities facing our congregations here in the Florida District.
To complete the day, we'll have a celebratory dinner, followed by a riveting concert with our own Amy Carol Webb. The next day, we join in worship with our host congregation.
We thank our friends at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Miami for hosting us this year. This exciting congregation offers a beautiful and accessible campus for our time together. Nearby is the University of Miami and South Miami's colorful restaurant district. Lodging information will be found on the registration flyer.
You will find linked here the program & registration flyer for our Assembly. As last year, we "go green" by not printing up flyers. We do, however, ask you please to print a few copies and post them where appropriate. We ask you also to distribute the flyer in your worship bulletin, post it on your website, and send to your members through your e-mail newsletter distribution.
Please note these dates:
Early Bird Discounted Registration deadline is: Monday, March 29.
Child-care is provided on Saturday for children 1-12 years at no cost. You must return your request in advance and no later than March 29.
