fall into an apple a day
Greetings!

It's no joke. The age old saying ("an apple an day keeps the doctor away" for those who forgot) really works, expecially this time of year.  Nature harvests this delicious fruit in over 10,000 varities - no kidding!  As summer comes to an end and we ready our bodies for winter, is important to eat lots of this fruit. Apples cool and cleanse the body of excess heat that will turn to dryness and irritate our sinuses. This naturally detoxifying fruit will also help build immunity that will last into the cold and flu season.
Try to eat at least 2 servings of apples a day until late October. I know it sounds impossible, but you have lots of choices - apple juice, apple sauce, even apple pies. In addition, continue to eat seasonal foods like squash and pomegranates to keep your body in balance and to keep healthy in this change of seasons.
Finally, take time to enjoy the beatiful colors and crisp air of autumn. Appreciate this transitional period from summer into winter, as we fall into routines, both old and new.

PHILADELPHIA -- A Philadelphia city councilman plans to introduce a bill that would restrict the use of plastic shopping bags.

Councilman Frank DiCicco's bill would ban larger supermarkets and drugstores from using plastic bags, unless they're of a new type that can break down in compost. It would not affect small businesses. San Francisco passed a similar law in March, but critics there said such a law would raise prices for consumers. Another Philadelphia City Council bill being pushed by Councilman Jim Kenney could ban foam food containers.Read more...
