meguytinkThe Beauty of Support

My Health Counseling business is slowly growing as I sign on new clients who are anxious to make changes in their lives, and refer my services to others.

It may appear from an outside perspective
that it is impossible to grow a business in an economy such as this. Yet, I am doing it, and I am very aware of the most important ingredient of my success ...having support. The support of family, the support of friends, and the support of mentors and coaches to help me get through all the tough spots.

Humans are social animals. And while introspective time alone is needed to achieve peace and clarity, having support from others is crucial for motivation and action.

As this new year, of this new decade continues, think about all the areas of your life where you could benefit from additional support to achieve your goals. Perhaps you could even use some support to figure out what your goals are. If so, I'd love to support you with that!

Offering my support, Tonya

Having support can change your life.

Health counseling is a relatively new title to an old trade. Many people do not know what a Health Counselor can do for them, so I am going to list the benefits of having a Health Counselor in this article. Let me start this off by saying that one of the secrets of highly successful people is that most of them use, in some form or another, a coach to help them get to where they want to be in life or in business or both. A coach, counselor, mentor, advisor or whatever title you want to call them, can help you identify goals and can motivate you to make those goals a reality for your future. Here are the benefits of having a Health Counselor:

Setting Goals. One of the primary focuses of a Health Counselor is that of setting and reaching goals. One of the main reasons people have difficulty manifesting success in their life is simply because they don't know what their own idea of personal success really is. It's like a businessman with no business. Without any source of direction, how can a person expect any quantifiable results? A Health Counselor can use questioning to isolate what is most important to their client and once that goal or goals are isolated, then the Health Counselor can help come up with a workable plan to be put into action.

Clarity.  It isn't always easy for people to see where they are, and how to get where they want to go. An outside perspective is a powerful way to get clarity on things you are able to see about your life. A Health Counselor can help you clarify your present condition and your future directions.

Action. Success rarely manifests itself. Knowledge and ideas are great to have, but they also do not manifest success in and of themselves. Action is what creates success in life. The reason why many intelligent and knowledgeable people do not experience the level of success that they desire is because they are slow to act on or apply the knowledge that they have. A Health Counselor can help their client make decisions much more quickly, reducing delays and providing more focused action.

Motivation. Even the best experts in the world utilize coaches, consultants, and personal advisors because there is a strong psychological factor of accountability when another person has oversight on your progress. Actors, models, even bodybuilders have personal trainers who make sure they are keeping up on their program to reach their intended goals and this acts as a powerful motivating force for them. Such is the same with Health Counselors. They motivate their clients towards their goals and they make them accountable for maintaining their program and sticking to it.

Support. A Health Counselor will listen to your story without evaluating, criticizing, judging, or offering solutions. They will lend their support for you through the toughest of times as well as the best of times.

Overcoming Challenges. We all face certain roadblocks in our lives that need to be overcome for us to achieve success. A Health Counselor can help their client brainstorm for possible solutions to complex challenges or old habits that need to be dealt with.

Life Balance. A Health Counselor can improve the ratio of work versus play in your life to achieve an optimal balance of both which will lead to reduced stress levels and a better quality of life.

Consulting. Most Health Counselors specialize in some aspect of expertise such as nutrition, creativity, spirituality, physical disease or imbalances, fitness, or stress management. The knowledge that they possess as a consultant can be invaluable to their client.

Confidentiality.  Although Health Counselors are not bonded by law, ethics dictate that the same rules of client confidentiality apply as with physicians. Therefore, what is discussed between a client and a Health Counselor is strictly confidential.

KohlrabiFood Focus: Kohlrabi

Don't be put off by the kohlrabi's octopus like appearance. A key staple in eastern Europe until it was deposed by the potato, this delicious bulbous vegetable has a radish like bite, a crisp turnipy texture, and a sweet cucumber taste. Either pale green or bold purple, kohlrabi grow as a bulbous swelling (or corm) on the plant's stem-one kohlrabi per stem. Kohl, which is German for cabbage, aptly indicates which family this vegetable belongs to.

Health Benefits: Kohlrabi improves energy circulation and eases stagnancy; it reduces damp conditions and so is effective for edema, candida, and viral conditions. It helps stabilize blood sugar imbalances and is used for hypoglycemia and diabetes. Kohlrabi reduces swelling of the scrotum. It is an excellent source of vitamin C and potassium. Kohlrabi is high in fiber and low in calories.

Use: Some people first cook kohlrabi and then remove its skin. Using a sharp knife, I peel the vegetable first, but I remove only the tough, fibrous skin at the vegetables base. Raw and sliced thin, kohlrabi is a delicious crudite served with a vegetable dip. Or grate it or cut it into matchsticks for salads. It can be steamed, stir-fried, baked, braised, added to soups and stews, or, as the Hungarians do it, stuffed. Kohlrabi, unlike cabbage, does not become sulfurous with long cooking. The leaves, when young, are similar in flavor to kale or collards. Kohlrabi can grow up to 40 pounds; they're sweetest when smaller, about the size of a tennis ball. Large kohlrabi tend to be pithy or woody. Kohlrabi should be firm, crisp bulbs with no sign of cracking, and fresh, green leaves.
