Philanthropy Matters

A Newsletter of the
Fayetteville Community Foundation

This issue of Philanthropy Matters is dedicated to the memory of John Lewis.

John was a founding member of the Foundation and our first board chairman.

John encompassed the sprit of FCF by continually striving to improve Fayetteville

and the Northwest Arkansas region.  We will miss him tremendously.

Jim Smith It is my honor to serve the Fayetteville Community Foundation this year as board chairman and it is my pleasure to share with you our first newsletter.  The Foundation has experienced remarkable growth over the past three years, and we felt it was time that we share some of the good news with you.    A few of our accomplishments include:

§         Establishing a total of 30 funds;

§         Growing our assets to $1,500,000;

§         Awarding over $315,000 through our donor advised, field of interest and scholarship funds since our inception in 2004;

§         Establishing our first unrestricted fund.  This is the first step towards the Board making discretionary grants to nonprofit organizations in the community;

§         Realizing a 10.7% rate of return on our endowed funds last year;

§         Completing our Founders' Circle Campaign, thus moving from the phase of raising operational support for the Foundation to that of fund development.

None of this would have been possible were it not for the support of our generous and dedicated Founders' Circle Members and fund holders. Your support is the reason for our growth, and we are forever grateful.

As the Northwest Arkansas area continues to grow, the Fayetteville Community Foundation through charitable giving and community support, will help to shape our region's future and its legacy.  If you have not already done so,  I encourage you to become a part of the Fayetteville Community Foundation. If you are already involved with FCF, on behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

James W. Smith

About FCF

The Fayetteville Community Foundation (FCF) is a tax-exempt, public charity organized in November 2003 to receive, protect and distribute gifts from individuals and organizations for the improvement of Fayetteville and surrounding communities.

The Foundation is a collection of charitable funds varying in size from $10,000 to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Each fund has its own identity and philanthropic purpose and each endowed fund benefits from being invested with other funds to create a lasting community resource. Currently, FCF has assets of just over $1.5 million.

Individuals, corporations, and nonprofit organizations use the Foundation for a wide variety of reasons.  Although their gifts vary in size, the generosity and foresight of our donors reflect a passionate commitment to the community and a desire to improve our quality of life for future generations.

The Foundation accepts charitable gifts of almost any kind, invests the funds, and distributes either a specific dollar amount or a percentage of the total to nonprofit organizations and programs according to the donor's advice, interests and charitable purpose.
