WOODEN MASKS BY ROGER FRANCOIS

Francois MaskHaitian artist Roger Francois is mainly known for his paintings, but he began his career as a woodcarver and still does some carving which he then paints. We just acquired some very interesting wooden masks that he produced for Issa El Saieh about 20 years ago or more. They are carved from a tropical hardwood (not mahogany) and have been oiled to bring out the details.

SILENT AUCTION TO BENEFIT HAITIAN KIDS A SELL OUT

On May 21 and 22 Ridge Art and the Chicago chapter of the Society of Children's Book Illustrators and Writers held a very successful silent auction of 19 illustrations of the tree of life to benefit Art Creation Foundation for Child
Silent Auctionren in Jacmel. We are pleased to announce that all 19 pieces sold and 100% of the proceeds went to the children. Our gallery was packed the entire weekend, so it was a win-win situation for everyone concerned. We would like to thank everyone who purchased the pieces and the two organizers, Terri Murphy and Janet McDonnell. To view the illustrations click on this link.

A nice complement to the auction is the completion by the children of ACFFC and two mosaic artists of a public memorial to the victims of the earthquake in Jacmel. This link will take you to photos of that wonderful installation. http://mosaicartnow.blogspot.com/2010/06/laurel-trues-time-in-haiti-draws-to.html
