MAY ART WALK TO FEATURE TRADITIONAL HAITIAN PAPIER MACHÉ BY ACFFC CHILDREN

paper macheRidge Art will be unveiling a show of traditional Haitian papier mâché carnival masks, bowls and ornaments made by children in Jacmel, Haiti. The artists are a part of the Art Creation Foundation for Children (ACFFC), a non-profit arts organization created for the education and personal growth of children in need in Jacmel, Haiti.

The show will open during the What's Blooming on Harrison arts festival and eco-exhibition sponsored by the Oak Park Arts District on Friday, May 15, from boys6-10 pm, and Saturday, May 16, from 12-8 pm. In keeping with the event's theme, "It's Easy being Green," the boldly colorful masks featured in the show are made from recycled cement bags that have been fashioned into fiercely striking animal faces. Part of the sales proceeds goes to support the work of ACFFC.

VINTAGE METAL SCULPTURE CONSIGNMENT
FROM EL-SAIEH GALLERY

We are extremely pleased to announce a very special consignment of vintage fer-découpé to Ridge Art by El-Saieh fishGallery of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. We have posted most of the pieces on our new website. Click on the link at the end of this article to access information and photographs of the pieces. The artists include Georges Liautaud, Murat Brierre, Damien Paul, and Janvier and Seresier Louis-Juste.

About half of the pieces are designated for an exhibit of Haitian metal sculpture in 2010 at Eastern Illinois University. However, all are available for purchase. The only stricture on the exhibit pieces is that the purchasers will have to wait until after the exhibit to receive the pieces.

Currently, all but two are in Port-au-Prince. We will try to ship from the States but this may not always be possible, so please call or email us for shipping information and costs. This is really a great opportunity to acquire a vintage piece of Haitian metal sculpture by an artist from one of Haitian art's most creative periods (1955-1985 plus ou moins!).

To visit the El-Saieh Gallery click here.

We expect to be putting together a large shipment from Haiti in the next 10 days. If you are interested in purchasing any of the metal pieces from El-Saieh Gallery, please let us know ASAP so we can include them in the shipment. This will save the purchaser a substantial amount in shipping because we will then be able to ship directly from the States to the purchaser.

JOANN GOETZINGER IS GUEST ARTIST
MAY 15 & 16

Sculptor and painter Joann Goetzinger will be Ridge Art's guest artist during What's Blooming on Harrison May 15 and 16. Ms. Goetzinger's paintings use visual elements derivedflower from the natural world. She transforms these elements through the manipulation of color, form and shape. The resulting imaginative anatomy becomes a shaped canvas based on natural forms but morphed into another reality.

"Joann's work is an exuberant welcome to the summer season after a long hard winter," comments gallery owner Laurie Beasley.
A WORD ABOUT OUR NEW WEBSITE

We have not officially "launched" our new site. But you are free to explore it and order from it. Bear in mind that it is a "work-in-progress" and that there are no doubt many errors and much that can be improved. Please be patient with us. We welcome your suggestions. And please let us know when you find errors. I guess we're calling this our site's "soft" opening.
