| Greetings! |
Okay, I'm just going to say it: This economy sucks. A year ago I was banging the "Reject the Recession" drum and now I'd like to stuff that drum up someone's... Well, you get the picture.
It seems like the vast majority of entrepreneurs are working twice as hard for less money--I hear the rumblings every day. There are a some rare exceptions and industries that haven't been hit quite as hard, but it is becoming abundantly clear that there are issues across the board.
So what's a responsible, frustrated, mortgage-holding business owner to do?
I wish I had a magic bullet for this one, but nobody does (which is part of the overall problem). I'm frustrated too. We have no choice but to ride it out, work a little harder, and keep looking for ways to uncover new opportunities.
How are you making the best of this economic standoff?
Are you launching new services? Finding new markets to serve? What is working for you?
I'd love to share some stories in my blog and try to keep the momentum going. Send me an e-mail and let me know how you're doing things differently and making business happen. Let's focus on what's working!
The only thing I know for sure is that this economy will turn around at some point--and then we will all enjoy the economic boom! Until then, let's see if we can share some ways we're keeping the faith alive!
Wishing you abundant joy and success,
-Stephanie Chandler

Book Pick: The Long Tail by Chris Anderson |
Anderson analyzes how the world is changing as supply increases and demand shifts. For example, with so many cable channels to choose from, the ratings it takes to land a position in the top ten are dramatically lower than they were just a decade ago. Amazon.com is another great example. The traditional brick and mortar bookstore carries around 20,000 titles. Amazon features millions. It takes fewer sales of a title to make the top sales lists and as consumers, we are demanding variety.
This book is insightful and makes you think--especially about niche marketing as a way to capture more market share. Pretty compelling stuff. For some crazy reason it's available on Amazon for just $6!
While I'm at it, I have to also give kudos to Chris Anderson's other book: Free: The Future of a Radical Price. Here Anderson explores how give-aways actually inspire sales. His research covers product launches like the Gillette disposable razor--which was given away at banks as a promotional item (am I the only one who thinks that is odd?). If you think about it, Google is a company built on giving stuff away. They make their money elsewhere (ad dollars) and provide access to all kinds of tools like Google Alerts and Google Analytics. Oh yes, and they are branding their way to world domination!
Free is powerful and it's definitely been a boon for my latest book launch (details below). By the way, last time I checked, you could still download the audio version of this one at Audible for - you guessed it - free!

35 Ways to Market Content with Social Media: Share Articles, Blogs, Videos and More to Grow Your Business By Stephanie Chandler There is no denying that the popularity of social media is increasing by the day. For sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter (herein known as "The Big Three"), the fastest growing demographic consists of users 35 years and older. Though social media was once considered a fad for kids, it has evolved into a viable marketing opportunity for business. For the casual user, social media is a way to connect with friends and family. For the business user, social media works by sharing compelling content to capture the attention of your target audience. When you do this well, you can count on generating website traffic, client leads and even media attention. "The Big Three" revolve around the concept of a status update. When you update your status, everyone in your network can view what you have to say. This is where the real opportunity lies. Instead of updating your status to report what you're having for dinner or that it's time to pick up your kids, share interesting content and watch the magic of social media unfold. Type of Content to Share on Social Media Channels 1. Your new blog posts 2. Someone else's blog post 3. An article you've written 4. An article from somewhere else 5. A video demonstration 6. A funny or controversial video 7. Before and after photos of work you've done 8. Humorous or inspiring photos 9. Client success stories/case studies 10. Free ebook 11. Special report 12. White paper 13. Upcoming event announcement 14. Live reports from an event you are currently attending 15. Book reviews/recommendations Continue reading...
