Real Estate Review Everything You Need to Know About Real Estate in The Bahamas |
Dear Valued Readers,
December seems like the perfect time for reflection. For Real Estate around the globe and in the Bahamas, it has been a year of challenge and recovery. Yet, it is with a sense of peace that I am able to pen that while a full recovery remains is a bit down the road, we at last seem to be on the road.
History supports the resiliency of real estate and we have begun to witness this nimbleness via increased activity in the Bahamas. Recently, there has been renewed interest and successful movement in private island sales, an increase in vacation home rentals and estate sales. For buyers there remain some fantastic opportunities on the market and there are strong indications that we are about to see a wave of investors.
In the Spirit of Christmas, we are proud to present our December Newsletter. Our featured property is a gorgeous home with a unique selling feature; the proceeds will benefit the children's charity, Critical Path International. We are sharing a bit more than usual in this issue as we provide you with great listings and Real Estate insights, as well as, some of our team accomplishments and spirited holiday thoughts.
As I close, I wish to extend to you and yours from our HG Christie Team, sincere wishes for the merriest of Christmases and a jubilant and renewed spirit in 2011 and beyond.
"I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year." Charles Dickens (A Christmas Carol)
Warmest Wishes,

HGC's Featured Agent Cara Christie - Nassau
|
Cara Christie is the daughter of Peter Christie, sister to John Christie and a Director of HG Christie Ltd.
Cara is renowned for her expertise in Relocation, Sales and Rentals. Having spent several years in Brazil, Cara has an excellent command of Portuguese and French that has assisted her in working with many native Brazilians relocating to the Bahamas. Her market knowledge, together with her language skills and clear understanding of expatriate needs, has brought her noted success in the real estate field.
Cara is a native of the Bahamas yet childhood travels and exposure to other lands include the English countryside, education in Switzerland, New York and France. Her unusual path to Real Estate included obtaining a BA in Biology, a degree as a Physician's Assistant and a Bachelor of Science degree. While the medical field brought Cara success in Nassau, she felt compelled to explore other paths that led to a move to Brazil where she taught English and sang in numerous choirs. The lure of home and an intrinsic knowledge of Real Estate in the Bahamas led Cara back home the family business and a thriving career as a licensed estate agent.
Currently, Cara sits on the Board of Directors of the Bahamas Real Estate Association and continues to utilize her performance experience from such far-flung places as Patagonia, Prague and Carnegie Hall with the Renaissance Singers in the Bahamas.
Cara lives in Nassau with her husband Cairo, whom she met while living in Brazil, and continues to enjoy traveling, skiing, sailing, yoga and playing tennis. Cara's affable personality, intelligent and kind nature immediately puts her clients at ease. Cara is known for going the extra mile for her clients. If you are new to the Bahamas, Cara is definitely someone good to know!

Holiday Decor Can Catch a Buyer's Eye A Home Seller's Tip Tastefully done holiday decorations can be the eye candy that captures a buyer's interest. Many sales and contracts are negotiated during the holidays in the Bahamas. In the islands, the holidays signal the start of a peak travel and tourist season. In the Bahamian Real Estate industry this is a prime time for visitors interested in second home ownership to view properties. During this time many homes are decorated for the holidays. Sometimes decorations can be a distraction and not allow the home to show well. However, when done well they can showcase the home and increase the purchasers appreciation of the property. HGC suggests to our clients to use elegant themes and warns against over-decoration. Seasoned agents usually advise their clients to, "Watch for things that could keep the buyer from being comfortable and able to visualize the home as their own." Here are some useful tips from designer Rick Davies, co-owner of Lafayette & Rushford Home, a home decor store in Dunedin, Fla.,: · Work with what can't be changed. Work carefully with the color, style, and age of the home. · Consider proportions. Don't put a huge wreath on a tiny door. · Light the way. Simple pathway lights are a gracious way to greet potential buyers. · Be subtle. Choose contemporary colors, including bright greens, lemongrass, golds, and ambers. · Natural is in. Natural-look and organic materials are in vogue, including berries, artichokes, moss, twigs, acorns, and feathers.

HGC Agent, Samara Knowles-Albury, Shares a Touching StoryRecently our team member Samara enjoyed a trip to Disney World with friends and family. This trip was made extra special by the presence of 'Jerromie'. Jerromie is a special friend to Samara and her family. Please enjoy a short story written in Samara's own words.
Samara, Jerromie and Chris at Magic KingdomTHE JOY OF GIVING
By Samara Albury Over 6 years ago, my husband Christopher and I were asked to volunteer an hour of our time every 2 weeks to spend time with a child who lived in a Children's Home. We signed up filling in the last space available on the list - Jerromie, Age 9. What started off as brief visitations quickly escalated to spending a couple hours together almost every week. Christopher and I committed that we would be Jerromie's friends for life, help him whenever we could and never break that promise. Jerromie was floundering in our over-populated government school system, so we arranged for him to attend a private school where his education could be tailored to suit his needs. With this individualized attention Jerromie has flourished and has a good grade point average. Now six years later, it was time for us to give Jerromie, who is now almost 16 years old, a brief glimpse of the world outside of Nassau. So Jerromie accompanied our family and us to Disney World for his first vacation. It was a trip of many "firsts" as he would experience his first plane ride, spend his first night in a hotel, and go on his first roller coaster. There was also a first for us as Jerromie performed a "magic" trick with all the composure of a David Copperfield! Who knows what other talents are laying dormant in this sweet natured young man?
After living in a Children's Home for 11 years, Jerromie is now living at home with his family and we continue to mentor him on his journey to adulthood. A child needs someone they can depend on when there is no one else there and we feel so blessed to have Jerromie in our lives. We often now ask people if they can give up 2 hours a month to spend time getting to know a child? I will tell you this, in the beginning we thought we were giving Jerromie something but it is amazing how the more time we give him, the more we receive in return. The joy and peace you feel when you make a difference in a child's life can never be measured. I encourage anyone who reads this story and feels a tug on their heart to ask yourself this question, "What would our country look like if all of our children had just one person that they could depend on and that would be an example to them of unconditional love?" I will end with this quote by John Bunyan, which states, "You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you."

Giving Thanks from Nelson A. Ranger, Golf Pro

| |
The Nelson Ranger Golf Camp extends a huge thank you to all that supported this event. The kids had a blast and the leaders totally enjoyed giving to them the skills that were given to them at some point. "The smiles on the camper's faces was worth every penny that it took to make this happen, absolutely priceless." Thank you H.G. Christie. We could not do this without continuous support from our sponsors.
Best regards, Nelson A. Ranger Golf Professional, BPG
