How to Handle Negative Online Reviews
|
Since August 2009, vendor reviews have been an important fixture of the PWG website. The vendor reviews give the bride-to-be access to insightful user feedback from her peers. Reviews provide an opportunity for advertisers to promote their business through a trusted avenue. The rise and significance of referral-based marketing via social media further highlights this growing trend.
The article "6 Reasons to Not Fear Negative Reviews" is an excellent read; it gives some very practical points about why negative reviews are important when building a creditable brand.
No matter how dedicated you are to customer service, sometimes bad reviews happen. At Perfect Wedding Guide, we will monitor all comments and delete those reviews containing any unlawful or objectionable content (words, language or content that is or may be considered unlawful, defamatory, libelous, abusive, racially or sexually offensive or obscene). Advertisers can always submit a rebuttal response to explain their side of the story if pertinent details have been omitted from the review.
However, if you do receive an unflattering review about your business or service, there are ways to recover. Here are a few tips and suggestions on how to handle a bad review*:
1. Reply Positively: Be proactive by contacting the client who wrote the review. Ask if there is anything you can do to solve the problem. When discussing your ideas, remember to stay calm. If you appear respectful and polite to the person who is complaining, the client may be moved to write a new, more positive review.
2. Document Everything: Keep a record of all communication with the client. Even if you cannot come to an agreement on the issue, you will at least have proof of your efforts in resolving the matter.
3. Highlight the Good: Ask happy customers to write positive reviews or comment on your services to stack up in your favor. This will help move the bad review further down in the ranking and offer a more balanced view of your company. Keep in mind that when soliciting reviews, you should never write your own review. If discovered it would be disastrous to your reputation.
When working with customers, always remember to go above and beyond. Treat every single customer you have as though they are your only customer. Handle all communications with respect and make sure that you are doing everything in your power to keep them happy. In turn, your company's positive review will speak for itself.

Weddings by Month 2005 to 2010
| by Shane McMurray, The Wedding Report
The recession not only had an impact on how much couples spent, but also on when they decided to get married. I looked at about 25,000 samples we have collected over the years and compiled this chart to show which months couples were getting married. It is interesting to see that during 2008 and 2009, more weddings took place in October than in June. In 2010, it appears that dates have moved back to the normal pattern. What does this mean? It means that you should be seeing a shift back to normal patterns for marriage dates. However, in a previous post regarding Average Length of Engagement Time and Engagement Months - 2005 to 2010 we noted that couples are accelerating their engagement time, currently at 15 months.
Percent of weddings by month for 2005-2007, 2008-2009, and 2010.
