Facebook Fan Pages vs. Profile Pages:
Setting up Your Business Correctly on Facebook

Most of you by now understand the differences between a Facebook Fan Page and a Facebook Profile Page. As a refresher, here's a quick review of the differences of the two page types below:

A. Facebook profiles are for people. Fan Pages are for businesses.

B. People vs. business: Profiles are intended for people, not businesses. It's actually against the Facebook Terms to use a profile for a business. If the Facebook gods find your profile set up like this, it's possible they may delete the entire profile.

C. SEO: Your Facebook Fan Page can be a part of your Search Engine Optimization strategy. Why is that, you ask? It's because Fan pages are indexed by search engines. Profiles are not. If you're like most business owners, you want as many people as possible to find you online. If you set up a profile in your business name, you're not maximizing your exposure. Sure, your Facebook friends will be able to see your page, but new people won't find you all that easily.

D. Fans vs. Friends: Fan Pages can have an unlimited number of fans. Profiles can only have 5,000 friends. If you're trying to build your business, why limit yourself? It only makes sense to choose the option that allows you to have more people get on your bandwagon.

E. One profile - many Fan Pages: You can have multiple fan pages, but only one personal profile. This is important for people who want to promote different businesses or groups.

PWG advertisers MUST have a FAN PAGE in order to use their Facebook URL on their Perfect Wedding Guide online listing.

If you are interested in converting your Profile Page into a Fan Page for your business please visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php?migrate and use the Profile to Business Migration Tool to get properly converted.

Did you know you can post/comment/share as your Fan Page?

In Facebook Go to 'Account' (top right)
Click 'Use Facebook as Page.' Choose Page.
Like, comment, etc as your page to build your brand.
When you are finished go back to 'Account' to switch back to your personal account.

Successful Networking

networkingThe wedding industry is certainly a unique industry to be in.  We get to network regularly.  We get to socialize with other vendors.  We see each other at bridal shows.  We do business together.   We work alongside one another at weddings and events.  I can think of no other industry where hundreds of small businesses come together so often to gain business and do business together.

As a result, the wedding market can be a very fickle place.  I often hear people say they don't want to attend networking events because they find them too "cliquish."  What makes them cliquish?  It's because you have small pockets of people that refer each other, work together and even sometimes play together outside of the marketplace.

If your reason for not networking is because it's too cliquish or you just don't feel comfortable walking into a room of people you don't know, we have some tips for you.

Catherine Katz of Cherished Celebrations recently presented some wonderful tips to our Triangle Guild that will help you get the most out of networking events: 10 Strategies You Can Use to Make Your Face-to-Face Networking Successful

Those that remove themselves from social opportunities to connect with other vendors are ALWAYS the same people that say business is slow.  However, you rarely hear someone that is well networked complain that they don't have enough work.  If you're looking for more business, you've got to get out there.

When you hear yourself saying, "I hate to network because everyone is so cliquish!"  I say, become a part of a clique or two yourself.  Let them get to know you!
