Communication is Key
10 Tips for Effective Communication

When answering your phone, don't just say "Hello?"  Use your name and/or company name when you pick up. Create a professional voicemail.

When emailing, be sure to use proper punctuation, grammar, capitalization and more.  Brides and other professionals will discredit anyone that cannot write properly or that is careless with his/her written communication.  Use spell check!

When the topic is important, follow up a phone conversation with an email so there is written documentation on an agreement made between you and the caller.  This can be done when setting appointments, negotiating contracts or working on a customer service issue.

When leaving phone messages, be sure to speak clearly when leaving your name and number.  Speak slowly and consider leaving your phone number twice so there is no confusion.

Say yes more than you say no.  People want to deal with positive people who care about their concerns.

Part of effective communication is listening.  Listen more than you speak.  Carefully listen to what the person you're talking with has to say.  By listening more than you talk, you can pick up on essential points that can help you make a better connection.

Put yourself in the place of the other person and try to speak with them as you would want to be spoken to.

Speak with smile.  A friendly face can make a conversation feel more comfortable.

Try to be thankful for the opportunity to speak with someone.  "It was a pleasure speaking with you," or, "Thank you for taking the time to call me today."  Gratitude can go a long way.

Stay on top of your calls and messages.  Don't let your voicemail and inbox stock pile with messages.  Your callers don't care how busy you are.  Return all calls within 24 hours if possible.  If you're unable to return messages, leave an outgoing message so your callers will understand your delayed response in advance.

These are just a few opportunities to increase your communication skills with both potential clients as well as other wedding professionals.  Communication is key to effective business practices and long term success!

The show was great! Thank you, Thank you!!! I feel that this show brings more qualified brides.
B.O., Scully Travel, High Point

I just wanted to thank you, Gail, and all of the PWG staff for your hard work putting on the show on Sunday.  It was my first one and I couldn't have asked for a better experience.  Everything ran smoothly, we had a great turnout, and I felt really great about the response that we got.  I look forward to working with you all in the future.  Y'all are awesome!
B.B., Belmont Events, Reidsville

I can't say enough about the quality and turnout, this was a great show for us! We will absolutely book business from this show! Loved it - Thank you Gail and Jaime!
B.E., Complete Music & Video, Raleigh

Everything on our end was a great success - we talked to lots of brides and got lots of leads. Kudos to you and your staff!
S.M., Bella Wedding &  Event Planning, Greensboro

I loved that everything was so organized and having the helpers at the dock with carts was wonderful! The brides and guests were great and the other vendors were extremely nice as well. There was a nice variety of vendors and I appreciated that vendors with similar products were spaced around evenly and not in direct, immediate competition with each other. There was a very nice turnout of brides and guests; we made a lot of contacts, handed out lots of information and expect to receive business from the contacts made.
S.K., Carolina's Finest Catering, Greensboro

The number of brides exceeded my expectations. It was easy to move in and out.
N.Z., ShutterBooth, Raleigh
