KIND WORDS

What a great dinner at Croasdaile Country Club tonight. A very beautiful venue. The guest speaker was great and got to catch up with some old friends.
Veronica Yoshida, Southern Gold Leaf Cakes

Just wanted to say how helpful this edition of the newsletter was. The stats really made me think about how I'm working currently and how I can expand. It's just one of the reasons I really like doing PWG shows as well as the assistance y'all provide in helping us grow.
Thanks!
Lisa Miller, Simply Southern Photography

Gail, Thanks for the e-mails you send   I do enjoy them.

[The new book] looks really cool Gail! Excited about all the new updates.
Julie Lee, Marriott Crabtree

I absolutely love the new look...I would like to say how much the PWG gatherings have helped me come out of my shell and meet new people in the wedding field outside of my small area. I have loved the opportunity to network and socialize with colleagues.... I am now, finally, networking. Thanks for all your hard work!

A Stale Cookie and Yesterday's Sandwich
Missed Marketing Opportunities and the Wedding Industry
By Shayna Walker, wedlady.com, September 2010 WedLock

Will someone please explain why the nicest resorts serve the worst "vendor meals?"

It's true. While newlyweds dine on rare imported seafood, the photographer is eating a white bread turkey sandwich leftover from the last executive retreat, and a cookie that could be classified as a type of rock. Unsatisfying, unimpressive and not just a little insulting; the message is, "we did what was required and you got what you deserved."

Beyond the lack of vision is the confounding issue of how little time, effort and investment it would have taken for the swanky venue to provide a delicious meal, packaged for convenience, timed to allow the photographer to give his client the best service, and so darn good that it made a raving fan for life.

As a marketing guru, Seth Godin, writes "...the best way to get referrals is to change what you do, what you sell, how you act when times are difficult, how generous you are when you don't need to be."

The most effective and valuable lead is a qualified referral.

When couples research their wedding pros, they give the most weight to word-of-mouth referrals. They begin with their friends and families, and having exhausted the inner circle, accept recommendations from the first providers they hire.

Asked to compare two resorts and choose the one he'd recommend most highly, who will the hungry photographer refer? All other things being equal, he's far more likely to recommend a property that treated him like a valued professional colleague than the one that made him feel like an inconvenience.

The wedding industry is unique in that in the case of most providers, there is only one opportunity to serve this client. A couple will get married at a venue just once and may have a limited number of friends to refer. But that photographer is good for a lifetime of qualified leads.

The decision to save time and money by delivering what's "good enough" instead of the best you've got is an epic missed opportunity.

Similar balls are dropped regularly and throughout the wedding industry. For example...

Thank you so much, I really enjoyed the luncheon. I am trying to "find my way" to networking the winery and its not an easy niche to find. This luncheon seemed to be a great match for us! I plan on coming again.

I want to thank you for such a wonderful luncheon.  I had the opportunity to meet and network with several vendors.  It was a very organized, and pleasant atmosphere. All the questions asked were very helpful and the food and cake were delicious as well. I look forward to another luncheon some time soon as well as attending the bridal shows in the future.
Thank you,
