The Episcopal
Church of the Heavenly Rest
August 5, 2011

Dear Fellow Parishioners,
Offers of help and words of support reach us almost daily, dashing any idea that the CHR family "closes" in the summer. We knew the available talent for addressing the tasks of the transition was deep and wide. But the response so far to the call for volunteers surpasses expectations.

From this wealth have emerged leaders for both the Parish Profile and the Rector Search committees.
Robert Williamson and Gail Zimmermann have agreed to be co-chairs of the Search Committee. Euan Cameron and Holly Hughes have agreed to serve as co-chairs of the Profile Committee. All four bring relevant strengths from their professional backgrounds as well as long-standing commitments to our church and an ability to devote the time necessary to the tasks ahead.

The committee co-chairs and the two of us will work together to form the respective committees from the many others who have volunteered. We believe we're on track to hold kick-off meetings for these committees in September.

Meanwhile, our Celebration Committee, led by Jo Dare Mitchell, is well under sail. We won't steal their thunder. Suffice to say there are already many great angles to the plans for honoring Jim and Nancy.

The search for an interim rector also continues apace. The committee of Judi Counts, Steve Schaible and the two of us are working through a short list of candidates. We can't as yet say when we'll be in a position to recommend an interim to the Vestry, though we expect to do so before mid-fall.

So we appear to be off to a good start. But it is only a start. The fall will be much busier, and your contributions all the more welcome. There will be many ways to participate in the Transition beyond committee service. We will let you know in what additional ways you can help as events unfold.

Best wishes,
Andrew Horrocks and John Hitchcock
