Helena Montana

Greetings!

I will often begin this newsletter with a fun anecdote, usually involving my kids.  But, they haven't said anything witty lately so I guess you'll have to deal with my observations.

I moved to Montana in January and I'll never forget my first Spring in the Rocky Mountains.  There's truly nothing like watching the mountains turn green before your eyes and then light up with wild flowers.  I'm looking forward to another season of beauty in the west.

Of course, our mountains still have snow so if you're after one last ski trip, the Great Divide Ski Area is looking forward to fresh snow this Thursday and Friday.

Is Montana on your radar this summer?  I hope to see you in Helena - maybe Downtown at a Wednesday night Alive @ Five listening to music, strolling the Farmer's Market on Saturday morning or maybe at a weekend workshop at the Holter Museum of Art.

Happy Spring!

Craft Beer Fest - April 19

Pairing great foods with fabulous brews continues the ExplorationWorks approach of hosting really fun fundraisers. The Craft Beer Fest promises to provide a great time while raising money for a great cause-Helena's own science center. The Craft Beer Fest will be held at Green Meadow Country Club and offers a unique view of beers, ales and ciders. Green Meadow chef Eric Potuzak will pair innovative and scrumptious foods with beers, ales and ciders.

The Craft Beer Fest is from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A "pre-event" one-hour beer seminar will be presented by Brian Smith of Blackfoot River Brewing and Cortland Dunn of George's Distributing. The seminar will be from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Admission is $50 for the Festival, $75 for both the seminar and Festival.

For reservations call (406) 457-1800 x1.

Become a Master of Plaster - June 1-3

Become a Master of Plaster

Obviously, this is not an April learning experience, but the workshops at the Archie Bray fill up quickly so I want to give you lots of time to register and to plan a trip around this course.

This intensive three-day hands-on plaster workshop will focus on the multitude of uses that plaster can accomplish. Both functional and sculptural approaches will be discussed and demonstrated through a progression of slide lecture presentations, physical demonstrations and hands-on working experience. Plaster will be discussed as a material in and of itself, as well as how its function can be used in the ceramic studio. The four main topics to be covered are plaster prototyping, slump/hump molds, press molds and slip casting molds.

The workshop is open to artists of all skill levels.
