Stephanie Pauline and Joe Uveges'
1st Reveiw of the duo submitted by concertgoer, writer, and More than Music associate -
Kathy Morford :
The passion that propels singer/songwriter Stephanie Pauline is a Tsunami. She puts her finger to her lips, gently taps and muses, "What do I want to say?" There is a slight pause; an ebb. Then... an ocean of thought and revelation rushes forth. As you listen, you are swept away by her and with her.
For this seasoned troubadour, Joe Uvegas, the journey continues. Joe is gentle, yet unexpected and surprising as that smile of his. He is like the non-threatening river that has peacefully lulled along but is now so swollen it can no longer be constrained by boundaries.
Stephanie Pauline and Joe Uvegas have meshed their magnanimous talents together. The result is a new country project entitled "When the Smoke Clears". Each artist has proven to be a boon to the other. Lyrically, Joe extracts to the surface the depth of Stephanie's intensity with relatable clarity. Stephanie is lofty while Joe is organic. Stephanie is mostly reverent. Joe is a little outrageous. Stephanie offers hope for the hurting then Joe adds the joy for the journey. Vocally, Joe has refined and polished Stephanie's range while she has empowered the quality of his. To the musicality, Joe supplied the twang and Stephanie the trill. Together the music is more harmonious and beautiful. Together the stories are a little more real and relatable.
A mutual admiration for the love of songwriting led to the quip "Hey we should try writing together sometime!" Stephanie has been singing and composing her own original music since childhood. Admittedly she never thought she would create so fluidly with another artist. She describes her working relationship with Joe as "too much fun". She says they have laughed and even cried while nailing down the story line for "When the Smoke Clears".
The combined fan base of Joe and Stephanie has rallied approval for "When the Smoke Clears" through their pre-sale support. Their confident anticipation of great music helped to provide funding for this project which was recorded primarily in Nashville with the industry's best.
The strength and foundation of "When the Smoke Clears" is the vitality of the songs. From the Army wife to the unemployed Father (with everyone else included), these are the stories of our lives; the unpredictable age in which we live. Stephanie and Joe have portrayed this with keen insightfulness. The stories are compelling. They are expressed in gentle terms. They are a balm to the listener. When the smoke clears we may have tears in our eyes but we find ourselves to still be standing. Thank you for the excellent music - Joe Uvegas and Stephanie Pauline.

Why do we support ministries such as More than Music? Because God is using this ministry to touch the hearts and lives of people in need. Because God calls us to come around and support His servants. Because they are doing what we can't do.
It is truly miraculous what has been accomplished through More than Music to date, given the relatively small band of faithful, private, financial supporters we have. This has been due to God's faithfulness and grace. It has also been due to the many sacrifices made by Stephanie Pauline and her family. Stephanie has worked more than full-time for many years and has waived her salary since this nonprofit was founded in 2003 to commit more funds to the work of MtM. We can do so much with so little! Still realistically speaking, for More than Music, Inc. to move to the next level of service, MtM needs $1,700 a month in base donor support. We currently have a shortfall of $1,100 in committeed monthly donations. Are you prompted in your spirit to join with the other partners called to support this ministry?
Support & Donations Online: If you would like to help support the More Than Music Ministry and would like to make a secure tax deductible donation online through paypal you may do so by logging into your paypal account and sending your gift to Donations@MorethanMusicInc.com .
Otherwise you may simply click on one of the three amounts below:
Via Check or Money Order: mail to More than Music Inc. P.O. Box 31 Farmington, MN 55024.
Remember all gifts are tax deductible, and are very much appreciated. We do have monthly partnerships if you are interested in making a commitment to help support us through finances or prayer. |

A LOOSE POEM CALLED...
Be Peace
By Stephanie
Your sustaining force
This second. This minute.
The timbre. The texture. The touch. Substance.
Love in motion.
Breath. Visage.
Calming wrap of voice.
Around. In. Through.
Piercing. Penetrating.
But always soothing.
There inside. Behind the cords
The nerves. The matter. The muscle.
You.
Your word in me.
Swelling. Sound. Whole.
Peace - deeper still.
More vibrant than fear.
More real than need.
Ready. Nimble. Full.
My heart of hearts.
Deeper still.
My always.
My only.
My own.
Loved like this..
How could I not
Be peace. |

- Since the last newsletter, More than Music Inc. performed another detention center concert - this time in Denver for 150 young people. Tim Collins and Stephanie Pauline shared the new music video for the song "Toy Soldier" and performed with it live. MtM is still working with Southern CO Youth for Christ to put on these concerts In the CO region.
Due to privacy laws pics in detention center concerts are rare. Pictured above are some valued MtM team members. That's Tim Collins on the left, Andy LaValley, who has helped run sound a few times, Joanna Springer ,our new booking manager, and then Gareth Unruh a Youth for Christ Juvenile Justice Ministires board member.
- MtM is in communication with the national director of YFC and the national director of YFC 's Juvenile Justice Ministry. We are discussing using the MtM concert experience as a means to recruit, train and plant mentorship teams (YFC affiliates) in the 1,280 facilities across the US that do not currently have any sort of Christ-based mentoring program in place. PRAY that God would provide the team and recourses needed to see this come to pass. There is no measuring the impact this would have on people's lives all across this land. This is a world changer! Not by might, nor by power but by His Spirit - let it be.
- Please pray. We have hit a road block with the web site. It is very important that we get the site overhaul completed and the new face of MtM up and running. It will much better convey the direction of this organization and is set to exemplify the bigger mission of More than Music in a more clear and comprehensive way. I'm anxious to get this done. If you feel led to give to help with the completion - please do. $3000 to $4000 will finish it.

| From the Heart | By Stephanie Pauline
Since I spend so very much time using my voice I have pondered deeply the effect and the power of the voice - in a song, in a conversation, in an argument or debate. Words. Timbre.
When I was younger and was still recovering from some devastating years, I held so tightly to the words I felt God had given to me; the words I found in the Bible and also the words just whispered by The Divine into my heart. I remember carrying my notebook around with me every moment of every day just so if I had a revelation or thought that might improve my life, I could write it down and not forget it. I was at a gas pump one day when God reminded me that the Bible says the Spirit will give us the wisdom we need when we need it (Luke 21:15) and that He can and will spur my mind to remembrance. He gave me a little dose of relief in that. Still, I thought it was all about the truth. All about the order of the words. How you string the line. After all, the Bible talks so often about "the word". I even thought it was my job to set the record straight if someone seemed to be believing something "wrong".
"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." (John 1:1)Biblical scholars largely agree that this is referring to Jesus Christ Himself as the Word.
"The Word of God will not come back void." (Isaiah 55:11)
My desire for a God-led life was a good one, but my method was faulty and based in fear. Let me explain. Far more important than the order of the words, or the exact jot and tittle of every phrase is the Spirit of the words. The Bible IS the LIVING WORD, through it and our faith in Christ we can have living waters sustaining and refreshing us from within. (Jon 7:38, Rev 7:17) Jesus says He is the WAY the truth and the life (John 14:5-7). Jesus also says that I AM (Mark 14:16) , just as God introduced Himself as "I am that I am" when Mosses first met Him in the desert (Exodus 3:14). What all these phrases seem to be implying is that THE WORD is something that lives, and if we want to be like Christ then it is something that lives in us. It is A WAY that invades our hearts and minds and changes us from the inside out. It becomes the "I AM" in each of us that gives us an internal well spring and power to deal with "what is" with unflinching honesty, and unwavering peace. So my point?
The word is really THE WAY more than it is the what. You can get the words right all day but never have the Spirit of the word, and therefore you never have The Word in its true sense. If the word is more than what I say and how I order the words, but is rather the Spirit alive in me...then in a smile, a gesture, a phrase, a song...all of it I can offer the word and the WORD will NOT come back void. That is power. The WAY knows what to say and when to say it and how to say it too. There are times when it is our moment to share truth in love, and there are also moments when to offer a hug is the only ministry that could serve and edify. I was once told "There is a difference between perception and insight. Perception sees things. Insite knows what to do with what you see." So true.
I've come to think that The better proof of spiritual maturity isn't found in being right, but rather in letting the other be wrong gracefully. If we can do that through God's love without the right hand even knowing what the left is doing - then the word alive in us will begin to show. The truth will live in more than words. It will be breath and life, power and joy. This is where we will find that the word that goes forth will not come back void in our lives. Let it be.
|
| In Closing | May you find The Word in you - alive, active, capable, and ever present for your moment by moment. Deeper still. Peace.
