Quirky Cases!
Lately, we've seen some off-beat bookcases that we couldn't resist sharing with you!
While some are more functional or funky than others, we thought you'd get a kick out of these zany shelves.
Are your books housed in a case as eclectic as these? Email us a picture:

New Kindle Or Nook In The Family?

We know that many book enthusiasts (perhaps even you!) received e-readers this past holiday season and we'd be thrilled if you could share this message:
Open Books would love your old books!
Please let your friends and family know that donations (books, DVDs, CDs) are accepted at the store during store hours or any time at our dropbox.
And, as always, every donation supports literacy programs in Chicago!

A Golden Globes Book List Last weekend, the award season kicked off with the Golden Globes and reminded us that quite a number of Hollywood's great movies have origins in even more impressive books.
For those of us that love to compare a book to its film adaptation, click here for a reading list to get started! |

Dear friends,
January is a time of exciting new beginnings, and we at the Open Books store are here to help you fulfill whatever new resolutions you have made! Perhaps you've resolved to get in shape? Or, is this the year you'd like to exercise your mind a bit more? Perfect! Come in for a 20% discount on everything in both our diet & exercise and philosophy sections! Maybe you've decided to shop locally or simply just to read more books. Well, we've got you covered! We have 50,000+ books to choose from and proceeds support our literacy programs, which serve local students. So, get your resolutions going while supporting ours: to continue improving our literacy programs so that we can serve even more students in 2012 than we did in 2011. Chicago's "indoor months" are upon us, and we can't wait to see you curled up with a good book at the Open Books store!
Happy New Year! Kevin and Lizzy Open Books Store Team |

We've tallied our bestselling titles from 2011 and, as you'll notice, some of the bestsellers at the Open Books store are classics while others are relatively new to the literary scene. The variety showcases the generosity of our fabulous book donors; thanks to their selflessness, we have great books on our shelves!

2. Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez 3. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson 4. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen 5. A Theory of Great Men by Daniel Greenstone 6. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by Rowling, J.K. 7. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by Rowling, J.K. 8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows by Rowling, J.K. 9. Join Open Books at Wishcraft in Roscoe Village for Glitterature: Kids Crafting with Books! While big brothers and sisters will love making one-of-a-kind upcycled crafts from used books (think graphic novel wallets and Dr. Seuss paper beads), the little ones will delight in the ongoing storytime courtesy of Open Books.
All Chicago families are welcome! Parents must stay in the building. The craft will take about 30 minutes to complete. Wishcraft is located at 2312 W. Roscoe St. in Roscoe Village. |
