Dear Friends,

Ah, November! This month of crunchy leaves and chilly weather is the very best month to cuddle up on a comfy couch in a cozy bookstore. It's also the perfect opportunity to meet friends and discuss new ideas and books. The Open Books store always has a couch available, but this month we want to go a step further and highlight some other ways you can share books you love with a large audience!

If you enjoy spirited book discussions, then the Open Book Club is for you!  Make sure to check out our upcoming monthly selections.  Do you have kids? Visit Chicago's largest used kids' books section and come to one of our many storytimes! Do you love to suggest books to your friends, family, or even the customer behind you at the checkout line?  Well, you can have your thoughts and feelings seen by every Open Books shopper -- just stop by the store and write out "I Recommend" cards for your favorites, or recommend books from the privacy of your own home!  Open Books delights in bringing people together to share their love for books. With Thanksgiving coming up, there is no better time to join in and become part of the Open Books family!

See you at the store soon,

Kevin and Lizzy

Out of the Box: Rare and Wonderful- Chicago Edition!

Allow us to share with you our love for our beautiful city by waxing rhapsodic about some lovely books that feature Chicago.  This month we are especially pleased to present a first edition, fifth printing signed copy of Black Boy by Richard Wright. The word "excitement" doesn't do our excitement justice!  Check out more Chicago gems by reading our blog post Out of the Box: Rare and Wonderful-Chicago Edition!

No matter what bit of Chicago history interests you, there's a good chance that we'll have something that suits you at the Open Books store. Come by and share your Chicago interests with us; we'd love to hear from you!

Open Book Club: November

Have you read Margaret Atwood's The Blind Assassin? If so, consider heading on over to the Open Books store to take part in our monthly book club. This is one of our favorite books, and we can't wait to discuss it with you!

If you can't make it this month, Open Book Club meetings will resume on January 10, 2012, when we'll be discussing Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. We have copies in stock at the store right now, so make sure to come and share your thoughts with friends old and new.

Want to learn more? Check out the full list of upcoming Open Book Club selections.  Then just mark your calendars to join us -- no RSVP required!
