Hello, Open Books friends!

For those of us in literacy land, May is all about goal setting.  This month, we've asked each of our little Buddies to pick a goal of how many pages he/she can read this month. Whether a student's goal is 200 pages or 20 pages doesn't matter -- what matters is that each week, students (with the help of their big Buddies, of course!) work toward their goal, and get to experience the overwhelming pride of achieving what they set their minds to.

This lesson -- goal setting -- doesn't only apply to the students we work with.  This month, volunteers have the unique opportunity to set their own goals to support literacy.  Whether you're the marathon runner or the marathon reader (or just want to give either the old college try), we welcome you to set a goal, solicit the support of your friends and family, and then work toward it. Sure, you'll be proud of yourself when you cross the finish line or close that final cover, but what's more, your hard work has the real potential to help students in Chicago start the race to literacy.
