Happy National Volunteer Month!

What a lovely month at Open Books! In April, we will welcome several new volunteer groups and share with them the joy that is volunteering (along with some key information on the literacy crisis, of course). We will have extra-exciting volunteer opportunities, including the Earth Day edition of Volunteer Craft Night -- what better day to repurpose some old but enchanting books? Active volunteers will even enjoy a special appreciation coupon for the Open Books store in honor of National Volunteer Week (next week!).

Whether you've been with us for years or are just joining us now, take this month to think about the difference you've made or hope to make, be it by reading with a student or helping the Open Books store thrive. Then, pat yourself on the back and keep up the amazing work!

On behalf of everyone here at Open Books, thank you!

April Vol-Star: Theresa Phelps!

If you've been to one of our Adventures in Creative Writing field trips this school year, chances are quite high that you have had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful Theresa Phelps. Since Fall 2009, Theresa has helped countless students tell their stories, and we couldn't be happier to have her! Beyond field trips, Theresa has been a great help with several other projects and is always willing to step in where needed. She is most recently to thank for lending her painterly prowess - for the second time - to help us add the finishing touches to one of our classrooms! Theresa, thank you so very much for all that you do. You are an integral part of Open Books!
