Dear Open Books friends,
In ancient Rome, March was the first month of the year. It makes you wonder whether the Romans experienced Chicago winters too. In the book and literacy world, March isn't a bad month to start off the year. In addition to being the beginning of spring, when we can all finally take our favorite book and sit in the park while we spend the hours reading, March also celebrates two holidays near and dear to us. March 2 marks the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known to children of all ages as Dr. Seuss, and is also Read Across America Day! I don't think I have to say much more about that one! Maybe those Romans were on to something. Be sure to stop in the store this month to see our new book recommendations and let us know what you've been reading!

Looking For A Reason To Explore Your Artistic Side?
Open Books is looking for painters young and old for an exciting mural painting and book signing party! Phil Yeh, often called the Godfather of the Modern American Graphic Novel, has teamed up with Chicagoland cartoonist Geoff Bevington and Belgian copper lace artist Lieve Jerger to create one of the most unique children's books of our time: a delightful story for all ages that shows kids the wonderful things they can do with their lives without using a remote control or electronics of any kind.
In page after page of Steve The Dog & The Winged Tiger, some of the best landmarks of Chicagoland are shown in timeless storybook style -- and on March 19 and 20, visitors will not only have the opportunity to buy one of 1500 signed, numbered, limited edition copies, but will get to meet the artists and join in as they paint an unbelievable mural on the wall of the Open Books store!
Friday, March 19 Saturday, March 20 11am - 5pm

Movie Night Continues At Open Books!
STORM
Hannah Maynard, prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague, is leading a trial against a former commander of the Yugoslavian National Army who is accused of the deportation and later killing of dozens of Bosnian-Muslim civilians. When a key witness commits suicide, it looks like the case will unravel. But Hannah refuses to give in. Described as "harrowing, provocative and deeply probing," by the L.A. Times, STORM won the Amnesty International Film Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival
