Dear Open Books friends,

I remember experiencing my first Chicago February shortly after relocating here from Wisconsin.  My first thought was: I didn't move far enough south!  All of the snow, wind and long waits for public transportation can make it hard to remember that the year is still a new one worth celebrating and warmth is all around us if we jut look for it.  The Open Books team knows this better than anyone else, since all we have to do is look around at our well-stocked shelves to find our next great adventure or heartwarming tale.  We hope you'll all continue the celebration with us and embrace the warmth of Open Books' team of dedicated staff and amazing volunteers this February.  We'll be sharing the love this month through discounts, regular Children's Storytimes, our first ever film screening, and the books we love to share.  We hope you'll brave the weather and tell us about the books near and dear to your heart!

Thank you to everyone who has already donated, shopped, and visited us in the store!  Your continued involvement and excitement helps us to promote literacy with our programs throughout Chicago and beyond! We couldn't do it without you.

Here's to continuing the celebration!

Movie Night! Film Movement At Open Books
mine
There is nothing better than curling up at the end of a long day with a good book. But at Open Books, we really love movies too -- and so we are proud to announce that on the third Thursday of each month, we will be showing a new Film Movement movie in the store! Film Movement selects award-winning independent and foreign films from all over the world, and shares them with us.
It's a great way to learn about new places, people and cultures. Also, look for special store discounts on books that tie into the film!

Our first film:
MINE

Hailed as "absorbing," "a must see," "Oscar material" and "the best movie at SXSW," MINE is a documentary about the essential bond between humans and animals, set against the backdrop of one of the worst natural disasters in modern U.S. history: Hurricane Katrina.
