news!

Dear Open Books friends and family,

2010 is here, and Open Books is celebrating the new year with a dazzling array of new things...beginning, appropriately enough, with a brand-new set of newsletters! Starting next month, we'll be sending out special issues focusing on our programs, our store, and volunteering with us. All of them will be full of the latest happenings here, and we can't wait to start sharing so much spectacularly specific news.

If you just can't wait until February to find out what's new at Open Books, our site is always open and constantly updated. If your New Year's resolutions included volunteering, we've got great opportunities available, and if you've finished reading the books you got for the holidays, we're delighted to accept book donations.  Our literacy programs are ramping up, we're starting to schedule events -- and, of course, we'd love to see you in the store!
See you soon...and watch your inbox for the new newsletters in February!

Happy New Year!

BREAKING NEWS! 2010 is off to an amazing start: we found out today that we're in the final voting round for a $20,000 grant, which would help us fund our reading Buddies program for hundreds of kids in some of Chicago's most challenged neighborhoods, including giving many of them some of the first books they've ever owned. You can help make this program possible by voting for us now: it's free, anonymous, and takes less than 5 seconds! Vote now and tell all your friends to do the same!
