Byerly The Pirate
Wrong-Way Byerly

So why do we call it a "Pirate Party?"  It's in honor of the liberal county commissioners who have, for years, taxed us into oblivion (like Captain Wrong-Way Byerly, pictured at right).

This is a summer fundraiser for the Alachua County Republican Party.  Tickets for adults are $25 and tickets for children are $10.

Nathan Skop Was Right!

Earlier this year, one of the most high energy people we have ever ecountered, Nathan Skop, ran for Gainesville City Commission.  Nathan's message was that the Gainesville City Commission's new biomass power plant was fiscally irresponsible.

Nathan Skop was right!  See the message, below, from Nathan:

GRU Electric Rates to Become the Highest in the Nation

What:  GRU proposal to increase debt to mitigate biomass rate impact

Where: Gainesville City Hall

Date:  Thursday, June 21, 2012

Time:  6:00 pm

The Gainesville City Commission will be reviewing the GRU proposal to refinance $150 million of its existing debt in an effort to mitigate the substantial rate impact of the biomass contract.

More importantly, GRU has been overcharging customers for fuel in excess of actual fuel costs over the past two years to quietly amass a slush fund of cash to camouflage the true rate impact of the biomass contract.  This is taxation without current benefit.

Key points:

·         The biomass contract will cause GRU residential electric rates to become the highest in the nation.

·         GRU residential electric rates will increase another $23.00 per 1,000 kWh/month above existing levels (2014-2019) from the biomass contract.

·         This biomass increase alone is effectively double the current retail rate of electricity in the State of Florida (11 cents/kWh).

·         GRU residential electric bills are currently the highest in the state for customers using over 1,000 kWh per month.

·         GRU has been overcharging GRU customers for fuel charges in excess of actual fuel costs.

·         The fuel charge over recovery is expected to be approximately $21.8 million by September 2013

·         GRU is overcharging now to camouflage the true rate impact of the biomass contract to allow the "progressive" city commission to save face from its irresponsible decision making.

Please show up tonight and hold the Gainesville City Commission accountable for their fiscally irresponsible decisions and malfeasance.

Congratulations to Rob Bradley, Alachua County's Next State Senator !

Rob BradleyCongratulations to Rob Bradley!  He cleared qualifying without a primary, and his only Democrat opponent is apparently a college kid.

Our friend, Rob Bradley, will be the next State Senator for Alachua, Bradford and Clay Counties.  We look forward to Rob's steady and experienced leadership!

Rob will be joining us at the Pirate Party on June 23rd!  Come meet Rob and let's show him that he has our support.

Victory Headquarters
Once again, the Alachua County Republican Executive Committee Headquarters will be a coordinated Victory Office.  Victory operations will be up and running by Monday, July 2nd and we will be pushing hard toward the November 6th election.

Headquarters FlagStarting July 2nd, headquarters will be open from 9:00 A.M. until about 8:00 at night for phone banking, picking up bumper stickers, yard signs, t-shirts, etc.

We need your help!  One-to-one voter contact will be an important key in winning the elections, this year.  Republicans calling other Republicans is going to be more important than ever.  Come to headquarters and make phone calls, or we can give you call sheets to call from home.
