It seems that the Independent Florida Alligator (the University of Florida's defacto newspaper) didn't much care for our move to bring Ted Nugent to Alachua County for the Ronald Reagan Black Tie and Blue Jeans BBQ. They wrote a thoroughly entertaining and colorful editorial that starts out like this:

"With every passing day, it becomes clearer that nothing will stop the Republican Party from living up to Jack Kennedy's "circus elephant" characterization. On the national level, a clown car full of jokers, white sepulchers and those named Michele Bachmann continue to wallow in their own intellectual feces."

"Here in the Sunshine State, we have a criminal-in-chief and a herd of minions who are hell-bent in starving our state into a privatized penal colony."

So, here is our letter back to the Alligator:

Dear "Alligator Editorial Board",

My what a forceful editorial about our decision to bring Ted Nugent to this year's Ronald Reagan Black Tie and Blue Jeans BBQ, but like a poor marksman, you have missed the target.

Truly, we were amazed at your journalistic nimbleness in that you took Nugent to task for harsh words, while in the very same editorial, accused conservative politicians of wallowing in intellectual feces and referred to our Governor as "criminal-in-chief". Nice work!

You lament the idea that Ted Nugent will be giving us insight into the political party process or some other fiscal revelations, but who says that is what he is speaking about? Our criteria for Black Tie and Blue Jeans speakers has never been about intellectual elitism or absolute political correctness. It is about the passion of the common man. After all, isn't that really what our founding fathers were? They were common men with a passion. Their passion was the idea that the promise of America is that we be free. The promise of America was that its citizens will be free from tyranny, burdensome government and excessive taxation.

No, we'll leave the intellectual elitism up to 20-something year old journalism students that can't hold a candle to our Alachua County Republican Party members when it comes to being experienced, productive members of society. In the ACREC, we are air condition contractors, realtors, road engineers, mechanics and computer consultants. We are restaurant supply distributors, office managers, home builders, home makers and veterinarians. We own or work in businesses that provide livelihoods to our families. We contribute to the great circle of life and our economic system.

Can you beat that? I didn't think so. We are better than you, we are smarter than you, and we are more productive than you. Still, we love the promise of what you can become, and we want you to have the opportunity to be better, smarter and more productive than we ever could be.

And, since you lament the fact that your government funding has been cut, we have a challenge for you. Graduate from college, and after you have spent about 10 years in the working world worrying about your business, your children, putting food on the table and keeping a roof over your family's head, maybe then you will have earned the right to lecture us about our values. Many of us have children that are part of your generation, and we don't want them burdened with a national debt and a deflated dollar that will destroy their quality of life and limit their opportunities, and we don't wish it for you, either.

Still, last year we got caught a little flat footed when Neal Boortz wanted to use a lapel microphone. We just couldn't boost the sound enough without getting audio feedback.
