Next REC Meeting

The next ACREC meeting is July 28th at 7:00 P.M at 1210 North Main Street in Gainesville.

Paid political advertisement, paid for and sponsored by the Alachua County Republican Party, PO Box 358536, Gainesville, Fl  32635, independent of any candidate.

The ACREC's Bicycle vs. Car Challenge

A few weeks ago, Gainesville Mayor, Craig Lowe, held a bicycle challenge vs. car challenge.  The course was a straight shot down University avenue with several stops along the way.  The goal was complete the course faster than his opponent, a policeman in a police cruiser.

Given the course and the time of day the challenge was held, the premise appeared to be that bicycles are an acceptable alternative to the automobile for real world, everyday business.

Never mind the fact that using a police car was a superfluous waste of pulic safety resources, the challenge was flawed because it wasn't a real world challenge.  Sure, a bicycle is going to be just fine fo a bicycle courier running around downtown, but not for the average business or sales person with 10 errands to run in the 40 square miles that is core Gainesville.

We are pleased to announce the Alachua County Republican Party's own Bicycle vs. Car Challenge.  Alex Patton has challenged Republican Chairman, Stafford Jones.  Come rain or shine, Alex Patton will be travelling a course of real world errands, during the business day, while Stafford Jones competes, in his car, to accomplish the same course faster than the bicycle.

Throughout his lengthy career, legendary guitarist, Ted Nugent, has reveled in the criticism that always seems to come from his patriotic straight-talk. While there's no denying his exceptional talent on the six-string, his knack for penning arena rock anthems, or his standing as one of rock's top live acts, it's his non-musical endeavors that have caused the most consternation from his detractors (his conservative beliefs and his 2nd Amendment advocacy). But by the same token, Nugent is a family man and one of the few hard rockers who has admirably stuck by his lifelong anti-drugs and anti-drink stance throughout his career.

Ted doesn't just limit himself to music and hunting, he's very outspoken when it come to other issues that hit close to home including politics, the Second Amendment and crime.

He's received the James Fenimore Cooper Award for his many accomplishments in the field of writing and for his amazing work promoting American hunting and outdoor heritage. His top rated show on Outdoor Channel, Ted Nugent Spirit of the Wild, is the four-time winner of the People's Choice Best Hunting Show Golden Moose Award. The North American Hunting Club named Ted the #1 Hunt Partner and he's the winner of the first-ever ATV Image Award. It was presented to Ted by ATV Industry Magazine in 2004 for his commitment to outdoor life, hunting and recreation.

At 61, Ted has no plans of slowing down.  Ted's a loving husband to his wife Shemane and a devoted father to his daughters Starr and Sasha and sons Toby and Rocco.

As busy as he is, he's doing what he loves. Ted said it best, "I really have the American dream licked."
