Calderwood Tells Captain "Wrong Way" To Walk The Plank
In today's letters, one of our favorite mayors of all time, Jean Calderwood, responds with a great piece of writing, and since it isn't posted on the Gainesville Sun's website, yet, we are including it here.
Also, for a related story, see the information about our upcoming Pirate Party on May 7th. That story is at the bottom of this email.

Byerly's arrogance:
Commissioner Mike Byerly's March 6 letter has the same elitist tone we've heard his entire tnure. His accusation that school crossing guards are the lowest priority in Sheriff Darnell's discretionary budget and his dictate that "parents should understand two things" are both typical of his arrogant governing style.
It appears as if Darnell is being given an ulimatum, either call off
the budget battle or we'll pull some of your programs and run them ourselves.
I am confident that parents, and the general public, understand the many issues at hand, not just the two pointed out in Byerly's letter.
Does this mean the county has the money for the crossing guard program and is just unwilling to allocate the funds to the sheriff?
Byerly states that existing guards "would simply answer to a different administrator." This may hold true for Commissioner Byerly as well, in November, 2012.
Jean Calderwood

Gainesville Elections - Making A Difference
Early voting for Gainesville residents is open. Early voting is being held at the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections office at111 SE 1st Avenue, Gainesville, Fl 32601.
A lot of Republicans are quite confident about this election. Allow us to throw a little bit of cold water on that. There are only about 14,000 Republican households in the City of Gainesville. More Republicans and conservatives are now living outside of the Gainesville city limits. The political environment is in our favor, but the numbers in the city limits are not.
Can we win? Yes, but it is going to take moving every Republican that we can to the polls. The Republican Party has already committed a lot of resources to various get out the vote programs, but we need more help.
Can you help out with the live calls? Can you call other Republicans? It doesn't matter if you live inside the Gainesville city limits or not, we can use your help.
Help Out At Our Headquarters:
The Alachua County Republican Party is running a 72 hour phone banking program from on Thursday, March 10th through Monday night, March 14th. You can come into our HQ, anytime, and we will give you a sheet of Republicans to call and sit you down at any one of our 13 phones. Our HQ is at 1210 North Main Street in Gainesville.
Help Out By Calling From Your House:
We can also provide you with a phone sheet and a script so that you can call from the convenience of your own home. Calls us at 352-373-8500 or email us at contactus@alachuarepublicans.com.

Folks, it is all about turnout. We CAN take these seats, and we have some great candidates to do it with.
Todd Chase, Robert Krames, Don Marsh and Rob Zeller are all GREAT Republicans that have filed to run for the District 2, District 3 and At-Large 2 seats.
The Alachua County Republican Party is going to be working, very hard, to turn out the vote, and we will be calling our exceptional volunteers to help us make that happen.
Candidate Contact Information:
District 2:
Todd Chase - http://www.votechase.com
Todd is a great guy with wonderful conservative credentials. He is a businessman and is raising his kids right in District 2. Todd is smart, understands Gainesville and would make a fantastic commissioner.
Robert Krames - http://www.electrobertkrames.com
Robert Krames works and lives right in District 2. Robert is a very intelligent fellow, very nice and would make a great commissioner.
District 3
Rob Zeller - http://www.robzeller.com
Rob came here to go to school, in the early 90's and decided to stay to build a business and a life. Rob is a chemical engineer, by education, and he is successful restaurant owner. Rob has a deep understanding of Gainesville government and will do a fantastic job.
At-Large 2
Don has been involved, for years now, holding local governments accountable. He is a true hero, in that regard. Don's conservative, common sense credentials are well known. If Don is elected, good things will happen.

The Pirate Party!
The Alachua County Republican Party is proud to announce a grand summer event.
On Saturday, May 7th, we are hosting a Pirate Party in honor Alachua County's most prolific pillagers and plunderers, Mike Byerly, Paula DeLaney and Rodey Long. We doubt that they will show up, but we are going to honor The Taxing Three for their ability to simultaneously tax us into oblivion and create a $400 million road repair deficit at the same time.
The Pirate Party is going to be a fish fry with a live band, tea, beer and wine and is going to be held at the beautiful Prarie Creek Lodge east of Micanopy. Tickets will be about $25 or less. We haven't set the final price, yet, but we will push it down as far as we can.
We will also have some great special guests.
More information is coming soon. . .
