Pyramid's Newest Client!

Pyramid Environmental is excited to announce its newest client, the Unite States Coast Guard (USCG). Pyramid is helping the Coast Guard respond to a fuel leak from a vital pipeline. Pyramid was on-site within 24 hours of the Coast Guard's request for assistance. We quickly determined the best course of action, obtained necessary documentation and samples, and allowed the client to continue with critical construction activities.

Geophysics

What is geophysics?

  • Geophysics is the study or use of the physical properties of the earth, such as gravity, electromagnetic conduction, seismic propagation etc. Engineers and scientists have found we can use the measurement of these properties to help determine what lies beneath the surface of the ground without having to dig into it (thus another name for much of geophysics is non-invasive investigations).

Some examples of times or situations where geophysics can be helpful are:

Determining if tanks or other metal debris is beneath the ground.

  • This is particularly helpful during Environmental Site Assessments (ESA's) because tanks and drums are considered Recognized Environmental Conditions and therefore it is important to know if they are present. The techniques most frequently used for this type of investigation are EM (electromagnetics) and GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar).

Determining the depth to bedrock, or other impediment to construction or groundwater flow.

  • The technique normally used for this is seismic refraction, as well as resistivity and seismic reflection.

We will continue to share aspects of geophysics over the next few issues of our newsletter, so stay tuned!

2011 is shaping up as an eventful year for the environmental business. There appear to be changes coming to the regulations of North Carolina and the federal EPA. And not surprisingly, the funding for projects is scarce. At Pyramid, we are focusing on what our clients need right now in order to be compliant as well as helping their businesses operate smoothly.

We are committed to being innovative and finding new ways (or old ways used in a new way) to get the objectives done faster, with less expense and risk.

Thank you to all our loyal customers, vendors, and employees for your support and efforts this year. Pyramid can't do it without you.

Sincerely,
signiture
