September 2010 The Clubmaker Report
Brought to you by the new Aldila RIP
Aldila RIP
  Aldila RIP Golf Shaft
The new Aldila RIP shaft is now shipping. The RIP has been tearing it up on the PGA Tour since it's Tour introduction last year.

I've updated my launch and spin chart at http://www.clubmaker-online.com/products/aldila.launch.html to include the new RIP . It's a nice chart showing how each piece of the Aldila shaft puzzle fits in comparison to one another. Looks like the RIP fits in the low spin/mid-low launch zone, great for you heavy hitters and rainmakers looking to bring your ball trajectory down a bit. Last week I announced a RIP 80 but found out that it's a Tour only shaft and won't ship until after the first of the year at the earliest. I'm sorry for the error.

I specialize in Taylormade and R9 reshafts (including the latest models). I use a high quality aftermarket sleeve and your new shaft will arrive ready to be installed in your R9. Send me a note for a price quote. In about two weeks I'll be adding a Cobra sleeve to reshaft the latest Cobra drivers, watch for further information here. If you like doing your own clubmaking work, I'd be happy you choose the right shaft, too.

Ryder Cup Course

A good customer of mine from the UK sent me an article that features the course in Wales that the upcoming Ryder Cup is being played. It's his account of their game at Nefyn, which he refers to as the "Pebble Beach of Wales"...the photos of the landscape are stunning and I think you'll enjoy his account. Thanks to Clubmaker Report subscriber Nic B for passing this along. You'll see Nic searching for a ball (not his, of course) perilously close to the ocean.

I'll withhold any USA, USA chants for a few more weeks.

New Mitsubishi 'ahina

Mitsubishi Rayon sent me information on their 2nd generation Whiteboard shaft, the 'ahina. It has a slightly stiffer tip and mid section vs. the Whiteboard and 2nd generation MDI technology and materials. The Whiteboard is probably my number one R9 reshaft shaft and the new 'ahina promises even better performance for low handicappers, high swingspeed golfers looking for maximum performance. The 'ahina is shipping October 15, send me a note for pricing,. The paint treatment on the 'ahina is sharp, black ion that flops to ion/mirror as you roll the shaft. They'll have a 60, 70 and 80 version in R, S, X (R flex in 60 only). Here's the information from Mitsubishi:

What do we have to boast about you ask? Two Major wins, driver shaft dominance at all 4 Majors, and proving again and again that when the best in the world compete, Mitsubishi Rayon drivers shafts are trusted more than any other. With the newest profile in the MRC family notching a Win, the Fubuki Alpha, we are not surprised to continually see great things from this revolutionary brand of products. After it was all said and done, Mitsubishi Rayon had a particularly nice performance at this seasons final Major, The PGA Championship. Nearly 40% of the top 20 finishers at the PGA Championship were playing a Mitsubishi Rayon Driver shaft. And new products such as Kai'li, 'ilima, and Fubuki Alpha accounted for nearly 40% of our total Driver shaft usage at Whistling Straits.

With the Major season in our rearview mirror and the FedEx Cup under way, there is no time to rest. In fact with the official Tour launch of the next generation Diamana White Board (Diamana 'ahina) at The Barclays, Mitsubishi Rayon is poised to have a great Fall season. Why are we so excited about Diamana 'ahina? At Mitsubishi Rayon we feel this next generation product addition to the lineup will ensure that the Diamana brand continues to be one of the most successful, and visible brands on the PGA TOUR. We are confident this new series will carry forward the legacy of the original Diamana White Board shaft, which has accounted for more than 20 official PGA TOUR Driver Shaft wins since 2007. Diamana 'ahina series utilizes a similar bend profile to the original White Board Diamana shaft, and like Kai'li and 'ilima, also incorporates Mitsubishi Rayon's signature Multi-Dimensional Interlay technology (M.D.I), to deliver a stiffer mid and tip section than its predecessor. Designed to deliver maximum stability through impact without sacrificing feel, Diamana 'ahina's extreme low torque, low spin design provides the flatter trajectory and low spin preferred by today's strongest players. The superior stability and optimized torsional profile of Diamana 'ahina will allow players with maximum ball speed to hit straighter, more controlled shots as a result of M.D.I. technology. This shaft has the ability to maximize how a shaft stores, and releases energy. With several in play already on the PGA Tour, we expect nothing but great things from 'ahina this Fall on the PGA TOUR in 2011.

Hot Shots

Miura tells me that production on non-conforming groove irons is winding down. Still some stock on non-conforming groove wedges if interested, when they're gone only conforming grooves will be available. MOI Golf's new Darkside II (DSII) driver is shipping soon, I'll pass along pricing when the heads are in.

The winner of the BMW Championship used a Fujikura Motore F1 in his driver, and a Aldila RIP in his 3 and 5 wood. The winner on last weekends Euro Tour event played the Mitsubishi Fubuki Alpha in his driver and the Fubuki Tour in his 3 and 5.

The 5th annual Association of Golf Clubfitting Professionals Roundtable and Convention is fast approaching, running Sept. 30 thru Oct 1 in Columbus Georgia. Their web site is http://www.agcpgolf.com/ for more information. They bill it as "Club Fitting's Finest Convention" and there will be plenty of classes and clubmaking fun to be had for all.

I've got a Titliest 909D2, 9.5 loft, with a Diamana Blueboard Stiff that I'm looking to sell. I bought it a few weeks ago but the head is 1 or 2 deg open , which translates to 2 or 3 fairways to the right for me. Actual loft with open face is going to be about 8.5 or so. It's in great condition (maybe 8/10??). If you struggle with the left side of the fairway, you might consider this head. Price is $199 for the first taker. Send me a note if interested.

Cheapo Depot

The new Cheapo Depot supplement looks like it's going to be quite popular and I should have some great specials for all you Cheapo's soon.

I receive a lot of correspondence from equipment companies, retailers, and others looking to clear out overstocked golf equipment at super low prices. I've decided to do a supplement to The Clubmaker Report called The Cheapo Depot. I typically send the Clubmaker Report out once a week on Tuesdays and the new Cheapo Depot will be an additional email to those interested in receiving news on clearance priced golf equipment direct from some of the larger companies that handle overstock items. To receive the Cheapo Depot supplement, simply update your profile using the link at the bottom of this email.

Here are the steps, it only takes a minute or two: 1. Click "Update Profile/Email Address" at the bottom of this email. 2. You'll be taken to a screen that reads "Update your Clubmaker Online Profile" . Click the "Submit" button. 3. For security, you'll receive an email with a link to take you to your personal profile page. 4. Click on the link. You'll arrive at your personal profile page. Check Cheapo Depot and submit and you're all set. You'll receive your weekly Clubmaker Report early in the week as usual, and whenever I have overstock and clearance specials, I'll send out a separate email later in the week with the Cheapo Depot specials. Send me a note if you're having trouble updating your profile and I'd be happy to update it for you.
