The weather has finally cooperated a bit and
I was able to try out some of the new goodies
released this year. I was a bit worried I was
going to have to report that not a single
driver or shaft would hit the ball over 10
feet high and with a screaming duck hook. I
finally loosened up a bit and had a chance to
compare a few heads and shafts. So far I like
the new MOI Darkside head a lot. It looks
great, fantastic feel/sound...great new head.
My other favorite for 2008 is the Geek Golf
DCT. Both heads have a similar ball
flight/spin and I'm planning a session on the
launch monitor to compare.
I like the new Mitsubishi Javln shaft. An older gentleman (77) reported back that he was regularly hitting 300 yard blasts with his driver that I reshafted for him with the Javln. I didn't have as much luck but did hit it very well. Please note that I refer to 77 year old guys hitting 300 yard drives as "gentleman" or "Sir". I put it in my Nak Htec and compared it vs a few of my favorites and it might just stay in the bag. I'll do a launch monitor session with this one, the Accra XC65, Matrix XCon, Aldila DVS, and report back. I've updated my catalog page and you can get more information on these at the link below. |

Great looking update on the popular RX460.
Using "Super-lite Carbon Crown" technology,
the weight that was traditionally used up in
the crown is now used for a denser and
stronger frame.
It's priced right at $139 and available in 7.5, 9, 10.5, 12, and 14. Alpha has also updated the Response Offset head with their carbon crown technology. |

I've been getting great feedback from my
customers on the new SMT 3390 fairway wood.
Low profile maraging face, beautiful sculpted
sole, nice graphics and paint treatment
(black/dark grey). This one is in the running
for my Clubmakers Choice award. Price is
right at $59 including headcover, smt grip,
and ferrule.

now available in all lofts including 6, 7.5,
9, 10.5, 12, and 14 degree. Price is $139
including a nifty magnetic headcover. Those
of you looking for a mid launch/low spin
head, look no further.

I thought I'd take a moment to give Graman
their due on the excellent Ultimate Signature
Series shafts, nicknamed the Chrome Limey.
The CUL440 is a customer favorite. 48", 55g,
3.3 torque and only $36! The CUL640 is only
51g, 3.0 torque and $64 and the CUL540 is
65g, 2.5 torque, and only $51.
The original "Limey" is the UL780. With it's day glo yellow paint treatment, 76 g, ultra high modulus materials and only 1.6 torque, the UL780 is a hit on the long drive circuit. A lot of the longdrive guys like the lighter CUL440's and CUL540's, too I'm thinking of building a "scramble" driver with one of the CUL models. It's an fairly inexpensive way to build a 48" longdrive club to pull out of the bag and impress you scramble partners with 375+ drives. |
