Superintendent's Column:
Each Spring, the end of the school year seems to get busier and busier. At Lake Park High School, there are events occurring nearly every night of the week in our buildings.
This is also a time of year that students are recognized for their accomplishments and contributions. I am proud that we recently had 79 new members inducted into the Lake Park Chapter of the National Honor Society. In a couple of weeks, the Lake Park Educational Foundation will be hosting its annual 5.0 banquet and on May 22, we will celebrate the accomplishments of our seniors at Scholarship and Awards Night.
Let us work towards a strong finish to this school year while celebrating the many fine accomplishments of our students.
Sincerely,
John K. Butts, Ph.D. |

New Members Inducted into NHS |
The Lake Park Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 79 new members on April 17. Membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. The society recognizes students who excel in scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Each category is judged independently. In addition to an academic requirement of a 4.75 cumulative GPA after 5 semesters, participation and leadership in school activities are essential. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student - one who excels in all four of the above areas.
Students who qualify are then asked to submit evidence of their service and leadership in school activities or sports, as well as community activities. Staff members are also asked to evaluate the character and leadership skills of prospective members.
NHS members are expected to earn service credits by helping at school activities and doing community service projects. So far, the new members have raised approximately $2,500 for the March of Dimes and will be the servers at the Distinguished Citizens Luncheon this Sunday. They also volunteer as peer tutors throughout the school year at East Campus. In addition, they will also be helping with a variety of other projects at Lake Park this Spring and Fall.

Boys' Gymnastics Sectionals |
Lake Park is hosting an IHSA Boys Gymnastics Sectional meet this Saturday, May 3 at East Campus at 7:00 p.m. This is a prestigious event for LPHS to host and it is only possible because our boys' gymnastics team, who have been enjoying a record-setting season, are ranked as one of the top four teams in the state!
Lake Park has always been a leader in the state when it comes to boys gymnastics and having a boys program is one of the things that makes LPHS unique. Come out Saturday night and support the boys' gymnasts and their coaches Keith Matune, Dan Lobraco, and Lee Wood as they seek a sectional championship and a birth to the IHSA State Championships. |
