  Dallas TeleLearning Update
August 2009
Vol. 5, Issue 10
Dear Valued Client:

This past month several members of our team attended the Annual Conference for Distance Teaching and Learning in Madison, Wis. (See the fabulous view from the capitol building left.) The event was productive and full of great conversations. But what surprised us the most -- other than Madison's infinite hipness and pedestrian-friendly atmosphere -- were the conversations happening on Twitter.

Everyone was on Twitter. There was even a conference discussion tag, #DistEd09, which flashed throughout the main hallway on flat screens and enabled tweeps to tweet about sessions and vendors. Social media has definitely caught on with faculty and institutions. And in this month's Featured Article, we profile one such faculty member using social media in her classroom. If you're not yet up to speed, check it out. She'll make you a believer.

Instructor Scarlett Hill gets candid on using social media in the classroom
By Lauren Mang

Amid teaching and earning two online degrees (she's persuing a third), Richland College English instructor Scarlett Hill has a big presence online.

The social media guru, who takes up a full-time gig at Dallas' Brookhaven College this fall, tells us why Twitter, Facebook and blogging is a must in every professor's repertoire.
