OCTOBER  2011

Welcome to Walking TALL News - October

Greetings!

Autumn is definitely on the way now - although the Indian Summer we had was very welcome - and we are planning our Autumn workshops and into the New Year.

We have a busy October, and I will be heading off to San Diego to speak at The Marketing Forum on "People, Brand & Behavior: The Massive Impact on Your Brand Strategy Success."

Next month my travels take me and the Walking TALL message to a new location - Iran - so if you have visited and have any tips please do let me know. I will certainly post some pictures after the event on the Waking TALL Facebook page, so if you want to be updated pop over and "like" our page.

We are also expanding our team with a Client Relationship Manager. Watch this space for further information on this exciting development for us.

As always, please do contact me with any suggestions and areas I can help you and your business with. I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Best wishes,

Political Party Conference Season - A Minefield For The Speakers

Theresa May
It's Party Conference season which gives us an opportunity to watch the political "brands" in action. And it didn't start well for the Liberal Democrats. Sarah Teather demonstrated why you shouldn't use humour in a speech if you are unsure of the response it is likely to get. She cracked several "jokes" which were followed by uncomfortable sniggering and damaged her Personal Brand in the process. Twitter comments came in thick and fast about how she was "bombing" and one of many said "Ouch. Painful watching Sarah Teather fall flat on her face with a series of ill-timed speech gags."

Politicians like anyone else get nervous before a party conference speech I'm sure, but all the more reason to practice, feel comfortable with what you are saying, try to inject some personality and at least sound as though you believe what you are saying! Tom Bradby, ITV political correspondent said on twitter "Chris Huhne is not the most charismatic speaker around, is he? Really hard to imagine him as a leader even without his local difficulties" and Andrew Neil of the BBC said Vince Cable "didn't sound as if his heart was in it."

Last week we tweeted on the fact that Ed Milliband "didn't give a damn" - click the tweet to read the story:

The women of the three parties have had been both praised and ridiculed - this week we've seen the fallout of "cat-gate" from Theresa May (pictured), which doesn't seem to have harmed her Personal Brand with The Telegraph  describing her as "the woman who has emerged from this conference as a tremendous operator who knows exactly which button to press with her constituency." Yvette Cooper's Personal Brand is also on the rise after her speech in Liverpool with the same Telegraph article saying "she emerged from the conference as a good bet to lead her party in the future".

It will be interesting to see in the months to come how these performances effect their political future - remember when David Cameron walked away from a party conference having proved with his speech that he would one day be party leader and Prime Minister?
