AUGUST 2011

Welcome to The August Issue of Walking TALL News

Greetings!

At last we seem to be getting some summer weather in the UK, however, by the time you read this I will be enjoying the sunshine of California having attended the National Speakers Convention last week. It is always good to catch up with fellow speakers and friends, and to hear some wonderful presentations. This year was no exception. Check out Ken Dychtwald for example - his presentation on age demographics was simply amazing. For example two thirds of anybody who has reached the age of 65 is alive today! We all need to be adapting our businesses and the way we operate with these kind of demographics in mind.

With the emphasis on travel this month the newsletter contains tips on travel and packing for business, to help make your trip as stress free as possible.

We are also very excited about new programmes and tools for students and graduates, including - coming soon - their own Walking TALL website! More news on this in the September newsletter by which time the site will be about to go live.

Don't forget that our new workshops start in August and are a fantastic price for a full day of Personal Branding for managers and executive PAs, see more details on the right and click the link to book places.

Finally the webinars have been such a success that we will continue to run them during the autumn months. If you haven't attended one yet this is a great way to be introduced to Personal Branding or as a refresher if you have been on a course previously.

I am now taking some time out in Carmel... to get married! Let's hope the sun continues to shine over the Big Sur coastline for our big day.

Best wishes,

Lesley Signature

Top Tips For Business Travel

As it is the holiday season and many of you may be preparing for your summer break I thought I would give you some top tips on travelling for business but some of them are relevant for personal travel too.

There are many theories about how to get an upgrade on flights, but it does seem that if you are a member of a frequent flyer programme for the airline you are more likely to get upgraded especially if the flight is overbooked. So remember to sign up for any loyalty programmes in advance of travelling.

By the way the last of the sales are now on so it's a great time to check out bargains on luggage.

Pack Like A Pro For Every Trip

If you travel regularly on business it makes sense to have a packing technique and routine that works for you. One of the first things you should do is find out the dress requirements for the trip. On many business trips you will of course have to attend gala dinners, leisure activities as well as formal business meetings.

One of the simplest things you can do is streamline your clothes by colour. Base your wardrobe choices around one key neutral and two accent colours. For example a charcoal suit, with accent colours of sky blue and violet (great for those with clear or bright colouring). Shirt colours could be icy grey, icy violet, and powder blue, for men, with ties with a stripe or pattern in a mix of these colours. For more casual outfits the suit trousers could be worn with casual shirts in these colours. Add a pair of chinos in grey and wear with polo style shirts in any of the colours, or striped combinations of the colours. One pair of neutral shoes will go with all combinations.

Announcing Our New LinkedIn Group - Visible Leadership With Personal Branding

Corporate training programmes have changed drastically in the last few years with organisations cutting training budgets and expecting a much greater return on their training investment. Talent management has become essential for organisations wanting to retain and develop their best people during the economic downturn. Visible leadership, with authenticity, is a topic that we are increasingly talking about in our training programmes.

With the increase in online networking and social discussions we feel the time is right to gather together a group of like minded senior executives who want to discuss the new requirements for 'visible leadership'. We believe that having a strong and authentic Personal Brand is key. So with this in mind we have launched "Visible Leadership With Personal Branding" group on LinkedIn.

What's New For Autumn 2011?

It may seem early to be thinking about what colours will be "in" for Autumn, but the shops are already starting to get their Autumn stock. If you are in need of a new winter coat the best time to buy is as the new stock hits the shops, giving you the best choice in colours and sizes. However, many stores now have special offers throughout the season so you could take your chance and wait.

This seasons key colours for women are from left to right; Bamboo, Emberglow, Honeysuckle, Phlox, Cedar, Deep Teal, Coffee, Nougat, Orchid Hush and Quarry

Men's colours are similar but with a stronger pink (Raspberry wine) and a deeper blue (Cadet) replacing Honeysuckle and Orchid Hush

You may have noticed that we are ahead of the fashion pack with our signature Yellow being very close to Bamboo!

If you still don't know which colours suit you,

take advantage of our extended colour offer.
