Hi there!

I hope you've all enjoyed your Easter break and the sunshine, in the UK at least! We're looking forward to the Royal Wedding here and especially the outfits. News will follow on that one next time.....  Shame I'll be in Cape Town and will miss it all.  Our best wishes go to William and Kate and I personally look forward to seeing how the Kate Middleton brand develops and what title she will be given.

I hope you find some useful tips in this month's newsletter - as always let us know your thoughts.

Enjoy the Spring!

Best wishes

Speak Up

Lesley was honoured to be asked to represent the UK and deliver a keynote presentation at the recent Global Speakers Summit held in Amsterdam this month. It is quite an event bringing together 200 speakers from around the world with a wealth of cultures and languages being represented, and having the best and worst of audiences who are all professional speakers themselves!

One of our key tips when coaching presentational brand, is to "know your audience". In this case, providing something that professional speakers don't already know was the challenge!

Lesley unveiled a new keynote speech specially for the event.  We were pleased to see it was well received on the 'twitterverse'. She used a metaphor relating to a wine label to your Personal Brand, with the audience mulling over how their label would describe them. What would your wine label say? Could it be dry with hidden depths, or sparkling and fruity?  The choices are endless and lots of fun!

Conferences are always useful events to assess why some speakers get their message across well, and others don't. Some useful reminder tips for you:

1.     Start with impact - not with formalities

2.     Give them your best stuff and not 'nice to haves'. Sharpen your content and make sure you keep it relevant

3.     Never over-run your time! No matter how good you are, if you go over allocated time you'll leave a negative impression

4.     Don't try and get audience interaction with a large audience - it rarely works well

5.     Get personality into your presentations with short stories, anecdotes or analogies.

Spring has arrived quite suddenly and with it the dilemma of dressing appropriately in this mini heat wave.  Here are a few tips to keep you looking and feeling fresh, with the start of the new season:

Sandals and Socks

  • Natural fabrics always work better in the heat, as they help the body breathe more easily. Wear pure cotton shirts for men, and silk or cotton for women.
  • A new season is always a good time to check through your wardrobe and see what needs updating, mending or discarding, so make some time to do it now.
  • Keep your hair trimmed and neat, and if possible off your neck, to keep it cool.
  • Update your wardrobe with lighter weight suits in summer weight wool, and lighter colours like navy or steel grey rather than dark grey and black.
  • This is the summer of colour, so if you don't have to wear a 'uniform' add a splash of colour. This could be something as simple as a bright spot on your tie, or bright blouse under a darker suit.
  • For women, makeup wears quicker in the heat so keep a touch up kit, of powder or blotting papers and your lip colour in your bag. Powdering well when you first apply makeup will help it last longer too.

There are lots more tips on appropriate dress in the Walking TALL book.

New Walking TALL Service: Clarity4D Personality Profile

We all have a perception of ourselves but how others see us is often different! We can sometimes be blinkered as to how we come across to others and how we might modify behaviours in order to build rapport and to project our Personal Brand more authentically. This is where a personality profile can really help.

Walking TALL In South Africa

This month, Lesley is off to South Africa to attend the PSASA Conference in Cape Town.  She'll be presenting for Entrepreneurs Organisation in both Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Lesley will also be spending a couple of days at the end of the trip on safari giraffe spotting - we're all jealous!
