Executive Business Dress Survey
During 2010 Auricas, the management training consultancy, conducted an executive business dress survey, which included oil industry, local government, recruitment, transport as well as many other business groups.
One of the findings showed that 42% of men dressed in a suit, shirt & tie on the majority of days, and 50% said that they would prefer a male consultant, when visiting them, to also be wearing a suit, shirt & tie.
So remember, if you're selling or providing consultancy generally your clients like to see you smartly dressed. There are always exceptions of course when casual can work, but do give consideration to the research and in addition think about these areas when meeting a client:
- Who is the client I'm seeing today and what are their expectations
- What is the situation or environment
- What are my expectations
- What are my objectives
By considering these points you'll come up with what is most appropriate.
