Sam was explaining how, to be happy in your job, you have to bring your personal values as well as the company values into your work so that you align what you do with who you are and bring your uniqueness to your role. When we bring our personal strengths into play and are being genuine like this, we bring enthusiasm into everything we do, which means we're much more likely to be successful and make a positive difference.
She also brought up some great points about confidence and how lack of it can hold us back. To be all that we might be, she had the following sound advice:
- We're most of us basically good people who want to do nice things for other people because that makes us feel good and boosts our confidence
- Allow yourself to fail. Taking risks is part of life (in and out of business)
- Learn from your mistakes
- It's OK to admit you don't know all the answers and the best way to get to know more, is to ask everyone you know
- Where you invest your energy is where you get your return
Those of you who know me, know how passionate I am about people feeling good about themselves, who they are and their lives. They also know that I'm equally passionate about helping people and about integrity in business and life in general.
I believe these points are inspirational and vital to understand if you are going to have lasting happiness. We all have 'faults', 'failures' and 'weaknesses' and, along with our 'successes', 'achievements' and 'talents' and they ALL help make us who we are and help us learn what we need to know to develop. How we deal with failure and success is the key and it's a choice.
Note Sam's last point about 'where you invest your energy...'. Keep your focus on the positive - even when faced with abject failure - and you'll find you can still uncover gems in the mud! Focus on beating yourself up about failure and what you've 'got wrong' in life and guess what happens?....
As usual, it will be great to hear your feedback, thoughts and ideas on this or any other topic you think you'd like to hear about.
Take care of yourself till the next time.
With love
Annie
