MarineParents.com doesn't go door-to-door

If someone comes to your door asking for donations for MarineParents.com, Inc., it is a scam. MarineParent.com never solicits donations by going door-to-door -- ever. We only ask for donations via our websites or through fliers included in shipping products from the EGA Store.

Recently we heard from a Marine parent who had a person come to her door looking for donations supposedly to help MarineParents.com. The parent made a donation, but after checking with our office, the scammed parent had to cancel the donation and change her account numbers.

Don't fall victim to door-to-door solicitations purporting to be from MarineParents.com. Protect yourself, and be secure in the knowledge that when you donate your time, money or goods to MarineParents.com, it's going to help our Marines overseas.

Greetings!

We're so glad you joined us for this issue of The Care Package Project News!

Our last pack day, Saturday, April 21, 2012, was a huge success. With the help of 88 volunteers, we shipped 752 Girl Scout Cookie care packages to our Marines serving in Afghanistan war zones. We've received our first card of thanks from the 1/8 Marines. Scroll below to view the card.

Also in this issue, we're asking for your help to replenish our warehouse with care package items for our next pack day, July 28, especially with summer items. And you'll learn a little about the folks behind the scenes who helped make our April 21 pack day go off smoothly.

Today is the National Day of Prayer, so we encourage you to say a prayer for our Marines serving in Afghanistan and around the world.

Thank you for joining us for this issue and for your continued support of our brave men and women.

Semper Fi, Marine Families!

Cookie pack day a huge success
Volunteers help us send 752 care packages to Marines

The thermometer lied.

The day dawned cool and crisp, a bright spring

morning - but at

MarineParents.com, Inc., it was as warm as Grandma's kitchen. The warmth had nothing to do with the temperature from without and everything to do with the feelings from within. The Girl Scout Cookie pack day was open for business, and the warmth, the love, the sense of camaraderie was unmistakable.

Volunteers pack Girl Scout Cookies and other items into care packages on April 21, 2012, at MarineParents.com in Columbia, Missouri. In two hours, 752 care packages were filled and shipped to Marines in Afghanistan.

Eighty-eight volunteers strong, on April 21, 2012, we filled 752 care packages for Marines serving in Afghanistan combat zones. Working for a common purpose, old friendships were renewed, and new friendships were made.

We need your help to fill 'er up
MarineParents.com warehouse needs items for next pack day

Here at MarineParents.com, we're finally getting back to normal after our April 21 pack day that sent 752 care packages - Girl Scout Cookies included - to Marines serving in Afghanistan's combat zones. But now the warehouse here in Columbia, Missouri, is nearly bare.

And that's where you come in.

Our next pack day is July 28, less than three months away, and we need to restock our warehouse. According to the Maps of World website, summertime temperatures in Afghanistan can reach higher than 110 degrees Fahrenheit in Jalalabad. We're always in need of all kinds of items, but for this pack day we're looking especially for things our Marines can use in summer: sun block, sunglasses, socks and foot care items, baby wipes, drink mixes and other items for use in hot, dry climate.

You can donate needed items, money for shipping costs, send cards and letters or organize a Care Package Project™ drive in your community. Click here to learn how you can help.

Additionally, if you have a Marine family member or friend who could use a care package, sign them up and we'll make sure they get one from our July pack day.

Send birthday wishes to the Corps
We need Marine Corps birthday cards for October pack day

They were conceived in revolution and born into conflict. And on November, 10, 2012, the United States Marine Corps turns 237 years old.

A little less than seven months after the battles at Lexington and Concord kicked off the Revolutionary War in earnest, a Continental Congress committee met on November 10, 1775, at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They drafted a resolution calling for the formation of two Marine battalions to fight on land and at sea for the revolution - and the Marine Corps was born.

Some 228 years later, MarineParents.com, Inc., was born.

We're asking you to start sending birthday cards to the Marines now so we can ship them out during our October 20 pack day. Handmade cards, especially from children, are always appreciated, but if you'd like to buy cards to personalize and send, we have those for sale in our EGA Shop. Click here or on the card to view details and how to order.

Either way, we hope you'll take time to wish the Marines, and the Corps, happy birthday.

The tradition runs from the first Commandant, Maj. Samuel Nicholas, to today's Commandant, Gen. James F. Amos, the 35th commander of the Marine Corps.

Unsung heroes playing our song
These folks behind the scenes made our pack day a breeze

Lonnie Rays of Harrisburg, Missouri, provided the food for our pack day feast.

MarineParents.com extends many thanks to people behind the scenes who made our April, 21, 2012 pack day such a success:

  • The Girl Scouts of Connecticut. For the eighth consecutive year, the Girl Scouts donated cookies to send to our Marines overseas. This year, they sent us 800 cases -- that's 9,600 boxes -- of Thin Mints and Samoas.
  • Joe Guffey of the United States Postal Service. Joe pre-stamps all the customs forms we need to be able to send our care packages oversees, and he lines up the mail trucks that we fill during pack day.
  • Lonnie Rays Smoked Meats and Barbecue. Our pack day lunch of brisket, pulled pork, coleslaw and potato salad was catered by the Harrisburg, Missouri, institution. Our 88 volunteers, along with assorted staff members, devoured nearly all the meat and fixings of the excellent lunch.
  • City of Columbia Recycling. They made a special trip on pack day to pick up all the Girl Scout Cookie case boxes and other cardboard accumulated in the warehouse.

MarineParents.com also thanks all the volunteers who donated money, items or their time to help us fulfill our mission of supporting Marines and their families. We couldn't do what we do without all of you. Thank you!

Thank you from a Marine

Say a prayer for Marines today
National Day of Prayer a time to reflect, support our troops

Today, the first Thursday of May, is the 61st National Day of Prayer.

With tens of thousands of Marines serving in Afghanistan, MarineParents.com encourages people of all faiths to say a prayer today for the safe return of our service members. You can post your prayer to our Facebook page, but please remember: "We DO NOT address or allow political issues. We DO allow freedom of spiritual proclamations, support and prayer. We DO believe in God, family, country and the United States Marine Corps."

According to the National Day of Prayer website: "In 1952, a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Harry S Truman, declared an annual, national day of prayer. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Ronald Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. Last year, all 50 state governors plus the governors of several U.S. territories signed similar proclamations."

Semper Fi, and God Bless.
