Celebrate & Support DC's Latino Community & Hispanic Heritage: Volunteer at Fiesta DC, the Region's Premier Latino Festival
Saturday, September 22, 10:00am to 7:00pm; Pennsylvania Avenue, NW: Fiesta DC is the area's premiere Latino festival. The annual event marks 41 years of celebrating Hispanic culture in the Washington Metropolitan Area and features music, folklore, theater, performing arts, food, children's activities, community outreach, and a parade of nations with more than 30 groups of dancers representing Latin America, the Caribbean and Spain. Show Your Community Pride as a 17th Street Festival Volunteer
Saturday, September 22, 12:00pm to 6:00pm; 17th Street NW: The 3rd annual 17th Street Festival is a free community even that celebrates the 17th Street Corridor from Riggs Place to P Street NW. The Festival features musical performances, artists, vendors, a pet zone, a kids zone, and more in celebration the community, its residents and businesses. Festival organizers, the Urban Neighborhood Alliance, a nonprofit that brings businesses and residents together to develop innovative solutions to community challenges, is looking fun, friendly volunteers to assist in a variety of duties. Support Local Talent: Volunteer at the 3rd Annual DC State Fair
Saturday, September 22, 11:00am to 5:00pm; 8th Street SE: Celebrate and support home-grown talent by volunteering at the 3rd annual DC State Fair. Held in conjunction with the Barracks Row Fall Festival, the DC State Fair is volunteer-run showcase of local growers, artists and more. The day includes local art and poetry, craft and cooking demonstrations, and traditional contests, including cupcakes, pies, home-brewed beer, honey and produce. Celebrate the District's Diverse African Culture: Volunteer with the Mayor's Office on African Affairs at the 3rd DC Africa Festival
Saturday, September 29, 12:00pm to 7:00pm; Banneker Rec Center, 2500 Georgia Avenue NW: Celebrate and support the District's diverse African community as a volunteer at the third annual DC Africa Festival. Organized by the Mayor's Office on African Affairs (OAA), the festival highlights African culture through art, music, dance, fashion food and other forms of cultural and artistic expression. The festival also features a parade of flags, children's village, wellness pavilion, and government and community resources. Volunteers are needed in various capacities, including setup and breakdown, registration, vendor and artist assistance, children's activities, and more. Volunteers can learn more or register online. With the 2012 theme, "Discover Southwest," neighborhood volunteers and residents put in hours of hard work each year to show off their best and are always looking for additional help. Keep Neighborhoods Vibrant: Volunteer at Columbia Heights Day
Saturday, October 6, 7:00am to 7:00pm; Harriet Tubman Elementary Field, 11th & Kenyon Streets NW: Columbia Heights Day is an all-day event dedicated to celebrating community, diversity and service through local food, music, art and more. Organized by the nonprofit Columbia Heights Day Initiative, this event would not be possible without the dozens of volunteers who help out every year.
