Robert Egger to Keynote Serve DC May 9th Annual Conference: Register Today!

With the theme, "Sustaining a Community of Service," this dynamic day of programming and networking includes renowned experts from local and national service-based organizations, including the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, City Year Washington, DC, DC Office of Disability Rights, DC Public Schools Office of Family & Public Engagement, Girl Scouts of the Nation's Capital, HandsOn Greater DC Cares, Higher Achievement, IONA Senior Services, and the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC), and interactive workshops and presentations designed specifically to help participants maximize their potential and achieve and exceed their goals.

More than 1,000 Youth Give Back Across the City for Global Youth Service Day 2012

More than 1,000 youth, youth advocates and community volunteers celebrated Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), April 20-22, 2012, with more than a dozen service projects across the District. Established in 1988, GYSD is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities throughout the year through service and service-learning. CERT Volunteers Test Emergency Skills with Serve DC & FEMS Spring Training Drill
On April 13 and 14, Serve DC, in partnership with DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DC FEMS), hosted a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Spring Training Drill and Demonstration at Anacostia Park Skate Pavilion. The drill provided CERT trainees with a realistic practice setting and tested their emergency skills and knowledge. Check out photos from the CERT Spring Training Drill on Flickr!
Serve DC's CERT program provides free training to people who live or work in the District to better prepare them to respond to emergencies and disasters. CERT volunteers provide critical support to first responders and immediate assistance to victims, and also help organize spontaneous volunteers. Serve DC is Now Accepting 2012 Fall Service Days Grant Applications:
Up to $5,000 in Grants will be Awarded

Serve DC is offering grants of up to $5,000 to support service projects with a focus on disability inclusion for 2012 Fall Seasons of Service Days, which include the 9/11 National Day of Service & Remembrance and National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Eligible applicants include local nonprofit and faith-based organizations, public schools, universities, community groups, and state and local units of government. Programs applying for funding must attend a technical assistance (TA) session, which will be held May 14 and May 30. The grant application deadline is 12:00pm EST, June 8, 2012.
