For Love of Children Volunteers Improve Reading, Math & Confidence
Nearly 75% of DC students perform at or below basic levels in reading and math. For Love of Children, (FLOC) an education nonprofit serving District children since 1965, needs tutors for its one-one-one program, which is specifically targeted at ensuring students achieve grade-level competency in reading and math. In just 22 hours of tutoring, students improve an average of one year in reading and math skills and gain the necessary confidence for continued success. Volunteers receive ongoing training and professional support, so noexperience is necessary. FLOC also offers flexible program schedules and multiple locations. FLOC currently has a critical need for tutors at its two Congress Heights sites on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings; however, volunteers are needed and encouraged to apply at any of its locations. |
