Green Ways to Be Organized
|
Greetings!
It's in all the papers, the websites, and the news - going Green is the best way to sustain the earth, right? We recycle our newspapers, our magazines, our plastic bottles, cans, etc. But what about our lifestyle? Are we finding ways to run our homes and offices in "greener" ways? Here are a few tips to "keeping it green" while you organize at home: - Use shoeboxes to store little "kits", like shoe-shine stuff, crafts, rainy-day activities for kids, auto supplies, and also to store receipts for retail purchases.
- Before going furniture shopping, what pieces do you already own that you could rotate - can that extra dresser from the spare bedroom go by the front door to process mail, store magazines and other entry way items? Can that old hope chest do double duty as a coffee table and blanket storage?
- Did you get a flat screen TV this year? Take your old TV to Construction Junction's e-cycle program.
- Get rid of your old papers by using a shredding service or purchasing a personal shredder. We provide/sell both here at Discover Organizing, so stop in!
- Take your plastic bags to a receptacle at your local grocery store, and use cloth bags (just don't forget to bring them in, like I do from time to time...). Coming soon to Discover Organizing is the CHICO bag - a much more portable, clip-able shopping bag...stay tuned!
- Cleaning out the garage or work room? Call the Habitat for Humanity to donate your hardware, paint, and building materials!
