EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY
Courage, Heart & Brains
This year's theme for Common Ground's eighth anniversary celebration, which will be held on Friday, November 9th, from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm, will prove to be a perfect reflection of the journey that the spiritual community has taken together over the past eight years.
A well balanced combination of Courage, Heart and Brains has supported and sustained dynamic growth, opportunities for meaningful spiritual partnerships, and creative responses to the complexities of day-to-day experiences.
As in past years, the sole/soul purpose of this year's anniversary event will be celebration of community. Celebration is the stated and reflected intention of our gathering. There will be no business or secondary agenda.
Invitations will reveal this year's theme. Beginning Sunday, October 7, follow the yellow brick road to the invitation table in the Salon at Common Ground. Invitations will be available for pick-up . Anyone who would like to attend the anniversary celebration is invited. Those wishing to receive an invitation by mail may do so by contacting judy@embracehumanity.com.
This fun evening of dinner and dancing will be a time of joyful celebration. As usual, no particular type of attire is recommended, in fact, a wide variety of interesting costumes, casual wear and formal wear has been the norm in the past. This is a time for fun. Be comfortable and creative. Your presence is more important than what you wear.
Please RSVP and purchase tickets no later than November 4th.

FOCUS ON THE ENVIRONMENT
Leaf Peeping
Whether you call it leaf peeping, foliage following or just "spending a day outside," enjoying fall's colors is one of the simplest joys of this wonderful time of year.
Whether you're practically a professional leaf-peeper or just a casual enthusiast, you'll need to know where to take in the season's splendor. Of course, there's much more to autumn than looking at leaves. It's harvest time, which means that it's also festival time.
Some of Southern California's favorite places to enjoy both the natural beauty and classic celebrations that come with the crisper fall temperatures can be found in the local area. Hop in the car and take a day trip to one of these great spots.
Pt. Mugu State Park: What is better than finding fall color just north of Malibu? Why fall color and butterflies, of course! A hike into Sycamore Canyon in Pt. Mugu State Park during late October and early November offers nice color, pleasant weather and clusters of wintering monarch butterflies in the trees. Be sure to save time for a beach sunset to end the day.
San Bernardino Mountains: Visit the aspens. Believe it or not, the country's southernmost aspen grove is located in the San Bernardino Mountains, east of Los Angeles. Aspens are known for their vibrant yellow autumn color which pops against the pines that dominate the mountain. The Aspen Grove Trail is located off Hwy 38 near Barton Flats. A sign directing you to Heart Bar campground will take adventurers onto Forest Road 1N02. Follow the dirt road towards Fish Creek in mid-October (weather dependent) and you will be rewarded with trees aflame. If you have time on the way home, be sure to stop in Oak Glen for some apple picking and homemade apple pie.
Desert Area: The mountains towering above the Hemet and Palm Springs area offer some nice pockets of vibrant leaves. When the nights cool down, head off to Idyllwild and Mt. San Jacinto along Highway 243. Lower in elevation, Hurkey Creek and Lake Hemet in Garner Valley offer some late season color in November.
Julian: This historic gold mining town sits at 4200 feet in the Laguna Mountains of San Diego County and offers the total fall package. Golden oaks and cedars, apple picking, and wine tasting await in this town which is only an hour away in distance but a world away in atmosphere. For the ultimate fall experience, visit in mid to late October when the Halloween harvest is in full swing and the apples are ripe for the picking
So, grab a sweater, save room for fresh apple cider and prepare for a good old fashioned tour through some of Southern California's best fall destinations.
