CSI Alumna Dr. Muriel Howard named AASCU President
After her graduation from Richmond College (a predecessor of CSI) in 1970 with a Bachelor's in Sociology and a minor in Elementary Education, Dr. Muriel Howard has dedicated her life to public higher education. After a 23-year tenure at University of Buffalo, and her most recent 13-year service to Buffalo State College, eventually becoming the institution's President, Dr. Howard has been chosen as president of American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). AASCU is an advocacy and support organization representing over 430 public college and university members in the United States, as well as in Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Member institutions pride themselves on access and opportunity, being student-centered, and acting as "stewards of place"-connecting students and faculty with the people in the outer community to advance local education, the economy, and quality of life.

CUNYfirst ESS Explained at Townhall Meeting
The Center for the Arts Williamson Theatre hosted a near-capacity crowd for a townhall meeting today, which informed the College community about Employee Self-Service (ESS), one of the next CUNYfirst modules that the College will be implementing.
When fully implemented, ESS will provide faculty and staff with the online ability to view portions of their Human Resources records, including contact information and a current listing of chosen benefits. This module is expected to be implemented in late fall 2009/winter 2010, and CSI will be the first CUNY college to go live with this module.
CUNYfirst is a suite of Oracle/PeopleSoft software that will replace aging computer systems covering student administration (SIMS), finance, and human resources, allowing College staff to streamline and standardize many of the tasks that they perform. It will be implemented in multiple phases over approximately five years. Each CUNY college has an CUNYfirst Liaison team that will lead and support campus implementation. Read More>

Electronic Music Lab has a MAC Attack
ForThe state-of-the-art Music Technology facilities at the College of Staten Island have just received ten new Macintosh computers in an effort to upgrade its facities for CSI Music students.
CSI Music student Christina Puliafico says, "We were lucky to get a whole new set of computers. Originally the lab had all PCs now we have all Macs. Macs are better computers for musicians than PCs are, they offer more and just support the programs better then the PC does."
The CSI Music faculty supports the principle that all 21st-century Music students should have a working knowledge of the media through which their art will be most often heard.
CSI's Music Technology facilities, feature both a Computer Music Lab 1P-124, and a fully equipped digital Recording Studio. Read More> |
